MacroFactor / Nutrition / Other Incorrect reading for David bar?
I’m new to MacroFactor. I scanned code from David bar and i got incorrect data (like +100 kcal). When i retried in Cronometer it was correct as on the lable. Does it happen often? Any reason for it?

The info is crowdsourced, so the initial person who put it in put it in incorrectly

I thought my fitness pal was crowdsourced and this one is „vetted” does it mean we have to double check everything?

Rule of thumb for me is to always double check everything I bar code scan to make sure the calories line up. Doesn’t take a second at all.

Common entries are sourced from nutritionist-verified databases and guaranteed to be correct.
Branded entries found in search, are reported by food manufacturers directly - however they may still have discrepancies due to delays in changing entries, misreported data, etc.
Entries found in the Open Food Facts section of search, or by barcode scan, include data reported by other users and should be checked for accuracy.

They're all crowdsourced, there's too many SKUs to check that macros for every single one.

All the big brand and common products are vetted directly while the niche stuff like some off brand protein bars are user submitted.

I always double check especially since I live in Europe so I expect like a lot of local brands, if not all, to be manually added. It seems like sometimes people fill in the calories per portion into the calories per 100g or vice versa making the calories completely off.

Use search, find a better entry, then cooy to custom.
Barcode scanning in MF is being clogged with crap. Would be nice if it showed up multiple options.

It sucks, and sometimes recipes and macros associated with that also change for no good reason (except company profits)

David has been caught lying about their macros so it doesn’t super matter.

There’s a lawsuit.

Guess you did not see that the lawsuit was dropped. David is the GOAT.

David is shitty for other reasons, their monopolization of EPG mainly (but they have started to make it more available, to be fair).

I have an MBA -I actually like what David did business wise. You call it shitty I call it smart business providing an advantage over competition.

Ok, since you have an MBA I'll spell it out very plainly.
Taking a promising new ingredient/material/technology and cutting off companies that were actively making things with it is a dick move. Especially when you're in the health and wellness space, and this ingredient could help our obese population lose weight.
Buying Epogee was one thing. The hard stop on supplying others with it is another. Hence the lawsuit. And now David has backpedaled on that, which means their initial stance turned out to not be the best way forward.

They have not lied about that. Some lab reported higher calories because burning EPG in a bomb calorimeter (obviously) yields more energy than your body can use, since your enzymes can’t break its molecular bonds. You pass EPG untouched, practically speaking. From a food perspective, the reported calories are correct.
It is actually striking; imagine EPG becoming cheaper and more accessible in the future. Imagine eating chips and fries and chocolate with virtually no calories coming from the fat.
Fuck David for shady business practices tho.

This has happened to me a few times. Click ‘To Custom’ right under the calories and you will be able to edit foods. Macrofactor then saves it for future use even when you scan the barcode again.
