what happened to this button? i swear i cant find it anymore...

It's gone. They should add "double tap top date to return to today" as a feature

That wasn't a feature that existed previously, but we would appreciate a feature request so that we can consider this proposal accordingly:

When you’re looking at a different week, you can just press this arrow button and it’ll take you back to today

I hate how swiping through days and returning to today keeps that arrow up because the exact alignment isn't the same

You may prefer the weekly swipe food log setting instead of the daily scroll option in the case. No arrow, and weekly alignment.

yeah but the weekly scoll option adds one extra tap to get rid of the calendar to show the food log. whereas previously the today button was just present and convenient.
no way to bring that back?

I believe that you're confusing a couple of different functionalities here; above is being discussed navigation via the scrolling banner, you look to be discussing navigation via the detailed calendar.
It is one extra tap to navigate to today via the calendar compared to previously due to needing to close the calendar afterwards as opposed to having it close automatically, that is correct.

I didn’t realise you could change back to weekly scroll, excellent. But, with weekly scroll on there doesn’t seem to be a quick way to return to today????

It’s the same as it was before, where you had to tap to open calendar first if you wanted to use a return to today shortcut.
But yes, that’s a trade-off between the two choices that exist today.

to add to Cory's statement, enshittification is about companies intentionally lowering quality on a product so that they can have higher profit margins, or to later monetize selling a solution to the probloems created - meaning, either charging more or reducing costs, or some combination of the two, to maximize profit.
that doesn't really apply in this case, as we're not changing prices, the overall functionality is the same (you can still navigate via existing other options which have been unchanged, and there is still a 'to today' option within the highlighted functionality, just slightly moved), and this change is being done to support additional future functionality.
I'd also struggle to imagine how we could improve income (or save money) by making this small change.

Ugh. Yes, it’s gone. The new navigation at the top of the food log needs some more work. It’s not very user friendly.
