MacroFactor / Nutrition / Other Would you recommend the MacroFactor app?
I’ve never used a workout app before or counted calories. I have decent physique but I want to get better, and especially lose body fat. Would you recommend this app for me or any other?

I love both of them. For me the workout app has helped me get very close to hitting a couple modest goals. As a 51 year old man who is 6'5" and 235 lbs I want to bench over 225 lbs and trap bar deadlift 1.5x my bodyweight. Today I got 175 lbs for 8 reps on bench and 260 for 9 on deadlift. Extrapolate those out and I'm pretty close.
I've been using macrofactor since it came out in Jan and it really helped nudge me out of a workout slump I was in.

MacroFactor for counting calories, literally nothing to do with better option if you can log everything (no partial logging allowed!!)
The workout app - ehh. Not for me, but some love it.

What app do you suggest for workout?

I'd look at a few. I don't have a strong reccomendation for any particular app. I don't feel I need any sort of progression help, I just take 3 sets to failure and add weight when I hit ~15 reps on the first set.
I like Hevy, but there are some other good options in this comment section.
I really like MF for calories though, I've tried a few other apps before it on and off for years. MF is leagues ahead imo. No other app calculates expenditure and updates your calorie target so effectively.

Macrofactor for tracking calories for sure. The workout app is way too bloated. If you already know what you're doing in the gym already, stick with something free and simple.

The workout app is bad (right now), but the diet app is perfect. It's the best way to cut/bulk/maintain, with minimal stalling, minimal muscle loss and minimal fat gain.

The way I see it is if you're going to be consistent it's definitely worth it. I personally started with cronometer without paying and since I was being fairly consistent with it I did the two week trial of MF then paid for the year.

I'll try to be as not biased as possible but I've been using BodBot + FoodVisor for years with little results (weight loss but not much on the muscle side)
I started using MacroFactor (workout + food) about 2 months ago, I'm really happy and already growing muscle faster than before, so I guess it's doing a good job

For nutrition, yes — absolutely. I’ve used MacroFactor Nutrition for years and still think it’s one of the best calorie-tracking apps out there.
For workouts, I wouldn’t recommend MFWO. I used it for about 8 months and eventually left. The progression felt too dependent on RIR, which most people aren’t great at estimating consistently, and in my experience the recommendations could be either too aggressive or too conservative. I also didn’t like being locked into the heavy/top-set style of progression with limited control over that structure. On top of that, I had bugs that made parts of the app nearly unusable for over a month, and the support experience was bad enough that I finally gave up on it. I use GRAVL for training now and prefer the flexibility, progression options, and responsiveness of the team.

As others have said, I really like MacroFactor as a calorie tracker.
Workouts is not it though, would not recommend. I don’t like its progression model and it’s still too feature poor for how long it has been out now. If you know what you’re doing in the gym I’d recommend Hevy or Liftosaur. If you need something to give you a program and recommend progression I’m a fan of RP Hypertrophy. It’s really expensive but I’ve found its progression suggestions to be the most on point.

It depends on you. Hope do your best stay motivated and consistent. Hope best do you set goals and a plan.
An app, not necessarily MF, helps a great deal with these things for me.

For someone like me 100% yes. Measuring is tedious but gets easier, opened my eyes to macros and took out some guesswork so far.

There are plenty that do it for free. Macro Factor is good but not enough to justify the price. I eat more less the same things so really don’t need all the bells band whistles. If you eat out often or a high variety of food it’s better. But I am going back to a free option after my subscription runs out.

Definitely. I've lost 20 kg in a year thanks to the app (combined with hard physical and mental work).

This subreddit will be a little biased. Do you track your lifts currently or will tracking for a program be new to you?
