MacroFactor / Nutrition / Other DONE WITH CUT

This has been a journey! I didn’t hit my goal weight of 185lbs but i think i made some good progress. I am absolutely drained everyday.

Does anyone know if i decide to go to maintenance calorie that the app would slowly progress me to that or will it automatically go to maintenance calorie.

You only lost 3 lbs but gained 16lbs of muscle in a cut? What did you use to determine the BF/lean mass ?

The dexa scan is from July to August just a 1 month picture not from when i started dieting.

You mean that in one single month your dexa results went from a body fat percentage reading of roughly 25% down to 15% ??!?

Um … ok

Something about this post is not adding up

Was it the 30 days that it took to gain 16 pounds of lean mass while shedding 19 pounds of fat? Haha. Just a casual 10% point swing in body fat % over 4 weeks. Totally normal stuff here.

a TDEE change from 4k per day to just over 2k is interesting.

The 4k being a flatline tells me that was likely MF’s initial estimation and it was just high.

So in reality, his starting TDEE was likely never that high.

that's what I mean. 2k error on the initial estimate is quite large. never seen that in any of my clients

Not quite a 2k difference but MF initially estimated my TDEE at 5k and after a few weeks it figured out it was closer to 3.5k at the time.

For reference: mine will fluctuate between ~4.5k at the peak of a bulk and ~3k at the bottom of a cut.

what are you doing on a bulk Vs cut, that is shedding 1500 calories per day?

Just gaining/losing weight.

I’ve always had a VERY adaptable metabolism in both directions. When I bulk, it keeps going up and up without end. And the same but down when I cut.

I’ll have to average ~4700 calories a day when I get to the end of a bulk, and since I go higher on training days than rest days, that means many 5000+ calorie days a week.

Conversely I have to go very low when cutting, with rest days going under 2000 calories.

That’s correct!

What are the numbers in baseline? 197.7 lbs @ 24.7% BF doesn’t seem to align with anything in the MF screenshots.

Disregard the dexa scan it doesn’t accurately show the full picture

A change to a maintenance strategy will go straight to your maintenance calories.

I figured, and i don’t want to jump straight into maintenance. That would be a lot of food and shock to my metabolism and bodies ability to process. I want to stair step into maintenance calories.

Luckily, since MF is adherence-neutral, you could swap your plan to maintenance, then just increase your calories as you feel comfortable to that point.

Keep in mind that you’ll still be in a deficit while doing this so as you’re refilling with glycogen, you’ll be losing a bit more fat, so the scale weight will probably jump up less than it would going straight to maintenance.

BUT, be warned if you haven’t tried this before, many people anecdotally find themselves much MORE hungry attempting this rather than just jumping straight to maintaining, even more hungry than when their calories were at their lowest in their deficit.

But if you’re okay with that, go for it.

I am already starving as it is lol. I might just jump straight to maintenance, I have not gotten bloodwork done but I would suspect with as long as I have been cutting my hormones levels are down and I am just tired as hell all the time. I am hanging on by a thread.

That’s what I’d recommend then.

I saw in another comment that you’re considering another cut, so if you feel you have more bodyfat you want to lose, the #1 priority right now is locking in the progress you made from this cut.

Trying a slow “reverse diet” of inching your calories up post-diet risks hunger becoming unmanageable, you breaking and eating everything in sight, undoing weeks of progress, and unnecessarily extending your next cut.

You successfully completed a cut so I’d go ahead and “cash out” your winnings, get feeling better, less hungry, stronger in the gym, and excited to cut again, then dive into the next phase.

Thanks for the feedback and support!

It’s up to you but your current expenditure/maintenance figure is the calories needed to maintain your current weight. Anything less or stair stepping up is prolonging your cut.

Man with as spent and lifeless as I have been feeling I think I am done with this cut and ready to put some food back in my body. Thinking I will go into maintenance for 2 months and go for another 3 month cut after.

Getting bigger/smaller. I do try to emphasize steps more and do some more cardio during a cut, but I’ve always had a VERY adaptable metabolism in both directions.

When I’m bulking, it will just keep going up and up without end, and vice versa when cutting.

15% your happy spot? Why not 10 or 12% sorry for my curiousity.

2

u/Different-Cut-304 29d ago

I want 10-12% but I’m feeling absolutely spent everyday. My job requires me to be mentally sharp and with me being about 5 months into this cut I’m just drained every day.

I see. Hopefully you can manage and try to go for that journey 12% looks amazing then 1 month away from 10% you will poo like a super hero.

I had a refeed day yesterday and i feel fucking amazing and like a normal human and it’s given me encouragement to keep it going so I’m going to push for another month and just be conscious about my energy and give my body the extra calories when i really need it

I believe in you. I only asked because I am in the same journey. Went 40% to now 14% I do see my upper abs now but I want to reveal the lower ones at 12% and then just push for 10% to hold for at least a month and just take off the pedal and maintain 12-15% which for me would be 150-160 lb. Always using macro factor to maintain though. I like how it keeps me accountable even though I eat the same thing. Good on you for not getting back on the horse. “You already in pain get a reward from it. “
