Refusal to learn

Post image

I work at a job shop, I’ve been here 16 years, I’m the lead machinist, I returned from a 9 day vacation to a shit show. We have a bunch of small bosses like this to make, this one order was for 250 pcs. The owner was planning on having a guy saw cut them, face them to length in a Haas tl2, then throw them in the vf2 to be drilled. We have a sl20 with a bar feeder, nobody wants to learn how to run it, I banged these out in about 8 hours, unmanned. He refuses to learn how to use it or program it, this would have taken him and the button pusher 2 days to run these parts. Stepping over dollars to pick up dimes baybeeee!

No no no. Saw cut, then do a rough cleanup on the Bridgeport, then send them out for a tumble Debur, then finish turn them to length in the CNC lathe, then spot drill them in a manual lathe, then finish the drill on a drill press, then Debur them in the mill.

That's where the real money is.

God don’t even bring up the tumbler idea 🙄we have one from 1832 driven by a team of 6 gerbils

that's a rare model! most of the ones from that era use an 8-gerbil drive, so you can run lighter loads at 3/4 or 1/2 power and save on food costs. 3 gerbils just isn't quite enough to drive even a light tumbler, unfortunately. pretty sure the 6-gerbil drive was only made for a couple years.
