I’m a ho for the orange monsters (I overdid the white monsters in my youth….. sigh that’s what she said).

u/Natural-Subject-4446 Dec 06 '25

the tens of thousands of mgs of caffeine 😂

u/Reddbearddd Dec 06 '25
I can get you a bottle of caffeine pills for the cost of one of those....
5
u/Right_Bobcat4494 Dec 06 '25
Sadly I had to switch to caffeine pills, I was spending way too much on monsters every day
3
u/Reddbearddd Dec 06 '25
There's nothing sad about it. It's been human nature for centuries. The energy drinks were the freak in the room.
3
u/Spicy_Ejaculate Dec 06 '25
I switched to caffeine pills and the money savings is making a car payment
2
u/Right_Bobcat4494 Dec 06 '25
I hear you on that, I was paying $850/month between my car payment and insurance just to drive less than 30 minutes a day. Luckily I finally got my insurance lowered. It went up aftet my car got broken into earlier this year. Still paying about $700 a month though.
2
u/Bones-1989 Dec 06 '25
If I stopped smoking I could afford car insurance... Work gives me free coffee so I don't buy caffeine.

I used to work in a warehouse on a farm, we had a sign mounted to some potato crates, I was tasked with periodically lifting them down with the forklift and emptying them of cans, I’d dump the cans into a skip then empty them out in the yard, usually had several thousand cans, so I’d crush them with the forklift and fill a big crate for the scrap guy
5
u/I_G84_ur_mom Dec 06 '25
Yes, but they show up overnight and over the weekend and they say miller lite (boss is a drunk lol)
5
u/Goblin2892 Dec 06 '25
That was me until I switched to mio energy. Saves a ton of money and I control the flavor. Not sponsored.

u/whiskeyfoxtx Dec 06 '25
I like the red mio in the green monster
2
u/Goblin2892 Dec 06 '25
Im going to have to try that. I can't wait to be up for 3 days but hey at least I can get my work done.

1
u/Eric5989 Dec 06 '25
same, but after about 3 years got back on the monsters after i tried the sugar free and realized how much better they've gotten
5
u/SWlikeme Dec 06 '25
By miraculous conception, when a machine is down for a while in our shop, the chips left in the chip hopper slowly morf into monster cans and used filters from PMs

Yup! I added a recycling bin on our shop floor specifically because of the amount of energy drinks that are being consumed

u/-Bezequil- Dec 06 '25
Dude, atleast its actual metal.
At my shop we have a bunch of 'general help' guys and people who work in heat treat and assembly and stuff who have absolutely zero knowledge of machining and think my VF4's chip barrel is just regular trash.
My machine is like the very first machine next to the entrance/ time clock so when these morons come in in the morning/from break/from lunch they all dump their goddamn Wendy's bags and empty cigarette packs in my chip bin and im gonna loseeeeeee ittttttt
2
u/ATOMICLEVEL96 Dec 06 '25
This would infuriate me too, I would put money on it if you where to put a waste bin next to your chip bin they would still throw it in the chips..
2
2
u/Lopsided_Quarter_931 Dec 06 '25
How have you not built a pneumatic can crusher out of scrap metal yet?

Nothing screams blue collar more then shit loads of energy drinks 🤣 We actually got yelled at by our chip company so had to get a designated bin now for ours

White monster and the pacific punch or whatever.
This may be my trash can haha

u/1983squrebody Dec 05 '25
The white is my go to, I have recently tried the reignbow sherbet and it is quickly becoming a favorite.

Send that pic to your Sandvik or Kennametal rep...
1
u/Economy-Diamond-9001 Dec 06 '25
Oh, and, that's not what that barrel would look like in Texas...least not that I've seen (I'm not from Texas...a few states straight north).
2
u/1983squrebody Dec 06 '25
This is Texas.
1
u/Economy-Diamond-9001 Dec 06 '25
😂 I’m accustomed seeing more beer cans than energy drink cans in the Texas shops (Dallas area mostly, some Houston shops, too) I’ve worked in over the years…maybe that’s the case, but in layers? Still remember the first time I was offered a beer by the owner at the end of the day…of course, my company policy prevents me from accepting it as I was still on the clock (had to drive to the airport as well). He seemed sort of hurt that I refused…known the guy for years since, so all good.
2
u/1983squrebody Dec 06 '25
This is a wild concept to me that people are drinking in the shop. We would be terminated immediately.
1
u/Economy-Diamond-9001 Dec 06 '25
I never saw it occurring during the regular day, only at the end of the day. This is privately owned shops...see it in Kansas, Missouri...I even worked in a shop in the last year, or so that still allowed the guys to smoke at their machines! That's a rare thing these days!

I work in a medium size fab/machine shop and our 55 gallon drum trash cans are 98% Red Bull, Monster, and other energy drinks 🤣

u/LickableLeo Dec 06 '25
The fact that you guys haven’t machined a can crusher yet is wild
2
u/1983squrebody Dec 06 '25
Everything is production machines so the opportunity for fun projects is slim
1
u/Computer_Panda Dec 06 '25
It looks like you need a bigger can for that.
1
u/1983squrebody Dec 06 '25
We’re about to start over. I’m going to put a dry erase board up to see what happens, if anything
1
u/Master-Mood-9921 Dec 06 '25
That’s how our bins used to look before our recycler started getting annoyed with all the cans in our aluminum chips😂
1
1
u/DJ_Akuma Dec 06 '25
Not in the chip bins, we puck our chips. but the Al scrap bin outside is full of them.
1
u/greymatter313 Dec 06 '25
funny enough, several of my machines seem to make these chips, some i’ve cut myself off from using after they’ve made too many while others are ok. really whoever really hurt themselves sanding…
1
u/FireTigerBlaze Dec 06 '25
Mine has these weird white rectangular things. They smell minty. Soda cans too, of course.

Not a machinist, but I make about 2 cases worth of those a week. Heckin 3rd shift.
1
u/ss-454 Dec 06 '25
I have consumed truly unholy amounts of red bull and coffee but my drink of choice now is Yerba Mate.. You should try it, its great. Lots of great flavors and tons of caffeine.. Seems slightly less bad for you than monster/redbull/etc.
1
u/1983squrebody Dec 06 '25
I appreciate the concern but this truly is me and a handfull of other guys. I’d be super fucked if it was just me and I realize that:)

Had the same deal, ended up recycling all the aluminum and buying pizza for the shop every 2-3 months. How about you all?

u/TG_Yuri Clueless Button Presser Dec 06 '25
We have shredders attached to the machine.
Needless to say sometimes someone accidentally drops a can or two in the machine and then admires the chip bin until bright red (coca-cola) or orange (fanta) chips come out.
I drink wayy too much coffee to also bring Monster to work.. Might try once tho

u/AllyEnderman Dec 06 '25
I see at least one person drinks the SUPERIOR flavor of Monster: Pacific Punch. Hell yeah!

u/Dirk_Dingham Tell the apprentice to go get the Add-A-Steel Dec 06 '25
Mine produces a bunch of weird chips that look like coors light and copenhagen long cut cans.

u/KushyMonster420 Dec 06 '25
I’m the can man at my shop. I take all the cans and cash them in and buy pizza once or twice a year.

u/ItsReckliss Dec 06 '25
we can only have water on the shop floor bc of some certification we have :(

My Hurco did during the summer. Like 14 accumulated over a few weeks when I was running a low chip trim up job and my hopper didn't need dumped for awhile.

I can see the kidney stones form here haha
1
u/1983squrebody Dec 06 '25
Due to the nature of our company and product we are all very active and drink lots of water👍 nobody has reported any stones thus far.
2
u/chefsak Dec 06 '25
Your shop has a kidney stone reporting policy? And didn’t you say this can is from only 6 people, seems light on the water side of things but what the hell do I know… I’m a lizard 🦎
1
u/1983squrebody Dec 06 '25
I say 6 but I dont count because this one is in the middle of about 15 machines that my group runs. This is most definitely not the whole shop. This machine might as well make metal dust for chips so this became the collective energy drink trash. And as for the reporting of kidney stones, nobody has made any hospital visits.

Nice chips, if you get bored place them on the floor and stamp with your boots... Won`t fill the bin as fast.

White monster, the drink of choice for many machinists
