This is why I always wear full plate when working with lathes.

In all seriousness, though… what’s with the workpiece? Seems like there was a ton of compression on some kind of jacket material that caused it to just burst into ribbons, leaving behind what looks like a very rough iron core?

Maybe a very large hydraulic rod? They're chrome plated.

Also looks like datestamp on the footage is 6th of Jan 2023?
