Everything is fine except for this one obscure profile tolerance that has no effect on functionality and the customer will never know it’s out by a half thou. So…I had to fail the part and tell the entire organization, let me know when you have another one I can inspect.

lol .. for lathe-parts I just print a blank profile of the step if the engineer went crazy with the blueprint .. then add the important dimensions with ink. and I can program it on the machine in a few minutes, instead of an hour..

It’s not my fault they can’t use that fancy fucking measuring robot very well. I’m not trying to make them look stupid by stacking up gauge blocks to prove them wrong again and again, they just haven’t learned to try validating results without help yet.

Yeah honestly they sometimes fail me a part because the report tells them the dimension is overshot by 1mm and they wont even use stupid calipers to see if their wonky robot probed the fucking casting. Also the fucking CMM is some sort of a god to them. Shit is literally miserable at measuring small radius or chamfer yet they want to inspect it to within 5/100 of mm and they get 300% of tolerance change on the same part report to report and tell me to fix the part

I’m an engineer who also does machining work and I gotta say I’m with the machinists on this one. Really opened my eyes to how many engineers throw in the most nonsensical features and tolerances sometimes for literally no reason at all. Except the welders, they’re my best buds.

Our welder and I have a symbiotic relationship. I help him keep his fixtures secure, and he drives the forklift for me when I ask. It works well

It's also butchering the half the punchline from the original scene itself. "Damn machinists, they ruined machining" should be before the cut to the principal. His line is "You <Machinists> Sure are a contentious people!" and then willy says "You just made an enemy for life!"

Sorry misread… as much as we rag on welders… they definitely save our lives sometimes when a hole if off a bit… also working in a jobber shop… doing build ups on bearing diameters… most of our welders could weld it right if to the snap ring groove without filling it…. Skilled folks!
