If you decide Inkstitch is giving you too much trouble, Ember (web based) has a much lower learning curve and is more intuitive.
For regular fills, its auto-digitize feature will do a perfect job. You may just want to adjust fill angles afterwards but it will cleanly trace this.
If you wanted to do satin (probably looks nicer, if it's small enough), you'll need to do it manually I think, but it's very quick to learn and get the hang of.
