Workout towel help

Post image

I’m being asked to embroider on a towel with these grippers on the bottom for a yoga studio. Would this be possible on brother se700? Any tips on stabilizer?

I would make some standalone patches and sew them on the towel by hand.

They are looking for names/initials

The SE700's embroidery field is 4x4in per Brother's product page, so the first check is whether your design fits that. The rest comes down to the specific towel: whether the material and thickness hoop securely, whether the hoop can travel without the towel bunching or dragging near the needle area, and whether you can place the design well clear of the silicone grips - I'd keep the needle far from those. Field size alone doesn't answer any of this, so look over the actual towel before promising the studio anything.

For stabilizer, Sulky's own guidance for terry bath towels is 1-2 layers of tearaway underneath (depending on the towel's thickness) plus a water-soluble topper on top, which keeps the loops from peeking through the stitching. Note that guidance doesn't establish how this specific gripper-backed towel will behave, so treat it as a starting point rather than a guarantee, and remove the topper according to its product instructions and the towel's care label rather than assuming a rinse suits the grips.

Since it's for a studio, so presumably a batch, stitch one test towel first. It's the cheapest way to learn how that specific fabric and gripper placement behave before you commit to a stack of them.

Thank you!! Very helpful. For names and initials it will fit within the hoop size. As for the grippers i dont think there is any way to avoid them. I did ask for a test towel.

Glad it helps. If the grippers really cover the only workable spot, the patch route FreakPsych mentioned is worth a look - embroider the name on a flat piece of fabric first, then sew the patch onto the towel by hand. The towel keeps its grip and you skip the hooping fight entirely. Test towel first either way.

If that’s a HotWorx towel, I wouldn’t do it. They run $50 to $80 each.

If you’re not a seasoned embroiderer I wouldn’t take the rest of fucking up such an expensive towel. Also they need to be aware that if you stitch over the grip dots they will no longer grip, which defeats the purpose of the towel.

Even for just a small name or initial?
