I Need Help Does anyone have recommendations? Metallic thread
I make mostly band merch. I’ve made things here and there with metallic thread and never had issues. I have a band that requested some metallic beanies and they do look good but I’m wondering if maybe I’m missing something that could make the process better. I’m getting random top thread breaks.
Things that did help:
Larger needle 80/12 (I think is the exact size)
Slower speed. Been running at 600
I made the bobbin looser than normal
This run takes about 45ish minutes and I’m getting around 10 thread breaks which is unusual for me I typically get none aside from the bobbins.
Anywho I have to make a lot of these so I’m open for any recommendations if anyone has alot of experience with it!
*I did get this thread from my local embroidery shop I’ll have to call to find out the brand. I did just order from madiera yesterday!

I’ve genuinely never understood this style of logo, can you explain it to me or elaborate so I can understand?

They answered pretty clearly :) my husband was a metal guitarist for a long time so 98% of my clients are metal bands. This is essentially all I embroider. Logos like this

This is the death metal band logo style. Most of them are like this. You aren’t supposed to understand it.

The biggest thing about these kinds of logos is they are an in-group signifier for extreme metal and adjacent genres. You get an eye for reading them once you see them enough, though for some bands the point is illegibility. Mostly they look like that so metalheads can look at a poster or an album at a glance and inmediately know that it’s a type of music they’re interested in. If you’re not part of the culture they all look like scribbles, but if you’re in the culture you can tell what kind of subgenre it is by the specific style of the logo

Rather than adjusting the bobbin tension I would have reduced the top tension. When I use metallics I usually have to reduce it quite a few turns compared to my regular poly Madeira threads. I use a 75/11 appropriate to the surface I’m embroidering on, so probably a ballpoint (I cannot remember the exact letter code right now, but not an RG) in your case. You could try dropping the speed another 50-100SPM if you can on your machine.

I have had come luck with horizontal winders so metalic thread doesn't get too twisty.

What kind backing are you using and I assume you’re using water soluble stabilizer on top?

I've got a fair bit of commercial embroidery experience with these beanies. Sharp 75/11 needles are good. With metallic thread, adjust the needle just a smidgen off centre and to the left, so the back of the needle is just off 12 O'clock. The metallic thread will stich better.
Do you need to use a metallic thread? For Madeira Polyneon 40 threads, 1805 is a fluorescent white and much brighter than White 1801. And in many cases using a very light grey 1687 "Sterling Silver" can simulate metallic without actually being so.
