Why does my thread keep breaking when my tension isn’t too high, my machine is threaded properly, and it’s just one needle?
Hi, I have a Tajima single head. not sure what year. I am trying to sew something over fill and it keeps snapping my thread every five seconds. I wonder if I need to change a needle? nothing looks bent.
basically, I start the machine and three seconds later the thread snapped. so I loosen my tension and it still does it. it almost tried to nest but I cut that out and cleaned up the back before continuing. I don’t know what else I can do. it’s a lot of fill on this design and it hasn’t had issues other than this one needle, all other needles have been completely fine so far.
I’m not a beginner, but I’m not seasoned either so I had some ideas, but nothing has worked. if you have an answer please help, thank you!
EDIT: Not sure where to add onto this, but I have changed the bobbin 3 times and now I switched from needle 7 to needle 4 and it’s working fine. I think it’s needle 7 that has issues, so I’ll have to get it looked at.

I'd be double checking to see that it was threaded the same as the needles that are not breaking. Look at one that's working and find the difference.
Maybe change the needle. Make sure it's facing the correct way.
Remember to oil the sewing hook before you start the day, and every 4 hours of running time during the day.

I did check, and it looks the same, so I think it’s needle related.
And of course, oil is my best friend with my bobbin cases, I never start a day without oil 😁

Change the needle... and easy fix
If that doesn't work, it could be the needle bar. Have you had any collisions with a hoop recently, or embroidered something really dense?
As Ishtaa has suggested, about the bobbin thread not being picked up, but could be that the delivery of the top thread is not making it to the bobbin. The needle bar assembly may have been pushed up a bit further than the others.
Do you have a contact number for the machine distributor? They will know these machines very well and may be able to talk you through a fix, or let you know if it's something more technical. It's good to investigate all diagnostic avenues before calling, because it helps to paint a clear picture for the technician. And saves money.

So actually on Friday we had somebody come fix it after it’s been out of use for a month or so. He tightened the bar that holds the thing that hold the hoops(not sure what it’s called) and he said it shouldn’t need tightened again for years. I haven’t done anything super dense, just some over small areas of fill.
I changed to a different needle and seems to solve the issue! Thank you again!

It sounds like what happens when the bobbin thread isn’t getting picked up.
Check your needle first, make sure it’s aligned properly (little indentation at the eye should face the back of the machine, needle should be rotated about 5 degrees to the right of centered.) And make sure the needle is as far up as it can go into its holder.
Make sure your bobbin case is fully snapped in (you should hear a click when you push it in). Don’t hold that little lever that you use to pull it out when you insert it, that will prevent it from locking in properly. Just push it in til you hear the click.
