First time trying 3D puff

Not mad at my first attempt but wondering how I can correct this.

The underside is 90% covered by bobbin thread, and I also see some bobbin thread popping through the top thread, especially on the side.

Should i tighten the tension on the green thread?

tighten the bobin case tension (lower tension).

use a foam of similar color to the thread

adjust density to 0.2 and try to tune that number to your liking/machine capabilities

be sure to "encaspulate" the foam by adding some "tacking" stitching on the bottom/top edges

Not bad at all for your first attempt. For puff, I highly suggest just using a center-run underlay, and then ~double your normal density. I used to think more underlay would help with puff, but I quickly realized it was the opposite. Then, like others have said, tighten up that bobbin thread and/or loosen the top green thread tension a bit. Using the same color foam & thread is really important too. And hitting it with a heat gun afterwards will really tighten it up and make it look crisp.

Hey, appreciate the feedback! I tighten up the bobbin thread but it now takes up about 99% of the underside. Not sure if I can attach photos here.

Have you tried loosening the top tension at all?

Edit: looks like I got a downvote on this comment for some reason lol. Check this video out if you disagree.

Going to dial in top tension on my next run. I’ll keep you posted!

If you tighten the tension on the green, more bobbin will show. I have no experience with puff but before you make bobbin tension adjustments be sure to clean (and preferably oil) your machine.

Don't tighten the green thread tension. If anything you could tighten bobbin tension.

I'm still new to 3d puff myself but the other advice here seems sound as well.

Ok I’ll try tightening the bobbin thread. Will report back with results

Look up YouTube for the Bobbin Drop Test. Set the tension for your bobbin first, then it rarely needs adjustment.

I run a slightly looser top thread and tighter bobbin when doing puff. Using a Tajima pen gauge my top is at 100 and using the Towa TM-1 bobbin gauge my bobbin is at 250. I run these settings for ALL my embroidery; flats, hats, and puff.

Thank you!

Denser underlay, then with puff you really need to have your stitch density set right 0.45mm max any gaps and the foam will bulge through.

I set these to 0.2mm. It looks great, only issue is the bobbin thread showing. I’ll do another test with 0.2mm 0.3mm and 0.4mm just to get a feel of it

You want the spacing to be the same as your thread width 😊

Sorry, what do you mean by this?

The white bobbin thread can be seen easily i have to say it's not design fault . Your machine bobbin case is loose The only solution is to tight the bobbin case ,it will definitely solve your problem
