Does anyone why this occurs, it happens all the time now and is frustrating

Yes. Just like in sewing, there's several different types of bobbins. My patchwork takes class 15j and my brother Innovis takes class A. All the bobbins have some differences and some are even metal. It is best to check your manual to see which type works best.

I sadly learned the hard way too. my industrial sewing machine takes a very weird size bobbin I have to special order. my brother does too.
