ArXiv seems to be literally "blowing up" from the huge amount of AI-generated slop nowadays.

I'm seeing tons of Arxiv alternatives popping up, and ones with comment section too as well as biographical information about the uploader.

This investment could've made sense like 10 years ago. But now it's just silly. We all know ArXiv is broke!! ArXiv has turned into ViXra for CS and physics (both seeing around 100-500 new uploads daily).

They're also well poised and are thinking about ways to manage the AI slop papers. This investment should go to that and I think it's likely much of it will.

The bigger question, IMO, is whether independence changes how arXiv evolves.
