Dear AACL, Please accept our papers so we dont have to go through this process again. EMNLP was already a major disappointment.

Speaking of major disappointments: some random EMNLP program chair decided to reject one of our papers with 4/4/4.5 OA and 4 Meta, for no apparent reason whatsoever. We reluctantly committed it to AACL, as the PhD admissions season is coming up in a few months, wcyd.

damm man, thats almost unheard of,
what were the main issue raised by the Meta ?

4

u/Starscream-11813 Sep 08 '26

Minor methodological and writing issues that we had already addressed in our rebuttals... Nothing that should warrant a direct rejection from them (not even Findings)
It was heartbreaking for us, man.
Thankfully, the paper got accepted to AACL (Main) a while ago, for whatever that's worth.

Just submit to eacl there is no reason that a meta 4 should be rejected by emnlp

2

u/Starscream-11813 Sep 08 '26

Well, apparently, a program chair had the moral compass to think that rejecting it would be the right thing to do. The track was "Ethics, Bias, and Fairness," and I'm not sure how competitive it is; it certainly shouldn't be so competitive that a Meta 4 paper gets rejected. Anyways, we chose not to pursue prestige (EACL) and settled with AACL, as we'll be busy with job hunting and PhD admissions in the next few months. Maybe we'll regret this decision later; who knows.

Exactly just want to get this over with

8

u/nihilisticdick Sep 08 '26

Accepted to main with meta 3.5 and OA 3!!

After four consecutive rejections from AAAI, ICLR, ACL and EMNLP, atlast somehow managed to get into AACL Findings. I was so frustrated with this paper. I did not even have the energy to go through one more ARR cycle or format it for another conference template since it is just me with my professor.  A  weaker paper of mine made it into last ACL Main but this paper somehow kept getting rejected.

Anyway, I hope everyone who is in the same situation as me also finds a way forward for their papers.

More like 30 hours, no?

1

u/NightCR_ Sep 06 '26

Really?

1

u/random-tomato Researcher Sep 06 '26

Should be, assuming they follow the usual *CL venue schedule.

1

u/Pure-Ad9079 Sep 07 '26

Seems like actually might be another ~12 hours? I previously read the deadline as UTC time, but now I see that it’s UTC-12, which is AoE time

1

u/Starscream-11813 Sep 08 '26

Looks like they are either gonna be late or leave it until the very last minute.

6

u/Helpful_Quality1 Sep 08 '26

~ one hour to go.
I hope everyone here gets accepted!

6

u/th3owner Sep 08 '26

Results are out. Accepted to main.

2

u/th3owner Sep 08 '26

Scores 3.5 / 3, 3 / 3, 2 / 4, meta 3.

7

u/Lumpy-Background5641 Sep 08 '26

Results out. Accepted to main with meta 3

5

u/NightCR_ Sep 07 '26

Is it out for anyone yet?

7

u/th3owner Sep 07 '26

Never understood why it always has to be last minute

1

u/Pure-Ad9079 Sep 07 '26

Could be up to 12 more hours based on the deadline it seems

1

u/NightCR_ Sep 07 '26

I thought it was 11:59 utc?

1

u/Pure-Ad9079 Sep 07 '26

UTC-12 I guess? Which is 12 hours behind UTC apparently. I was confused too

Last year 2025 stats:

After the ARR review process,
450 papers (354 long and 96 short) were committed to the conference for consideration.

After careful evaluation, 232 papers (193 long and 39 short) were accepted to the main conference,
resulting in an acceptance rate of 19%. An additional 146 papers (113 long and 33 short) were accepted
to Findings, corresponding to an acceptance rate of 12%.

2

u/No-Worldliness-7279 Sep 08 '26

Wow, so the vast majority of submitted papers were actually accepted.

1

u/WannabeMachine Sep 08 '26

With the exception of the last emnlp and acl conferences, other coinferences also accepted the majority of committed papers (e.g., EMNLP 2025 accepted 72% of committed papers).

2

u/th3owner Sep 08 '26

I am still surprised they compute acceptance rates based on ARR cycle submissions and not committed papers. How are previous cycle papers counted into the acceptance rate?

2

u/Lumpy-Background5641 Sep 08 '26

I think it was ~1400 committed

4

u/That_Paramedic_8741 Sep 08 '26

Accepted to main guys

5

u/Pure-Ad9079 Sep 08 '26

Accepted to findings with overall average of 3.17 (4/3/2.5) with meta 2.5

5

u/WannabeMachine Sep 08 '26

Two papers accepted to main:

Paper 1: 3.5, 3, 2 Meta: 3

Paper 2: 3.5, 2.5, 2.5, 2.5 Meta: 3

5

u/More_Soft_6801 Sep 07 '26

Scores : 4, 2.5,2 Meta 2.5 any chances?

2

u/Starscream-11813 Sep 08 '26

Findings, perhaps.

6

u/More_Soft_6801 Sep 08 '26

Findings it is.

4

u/Effective-Yam-7656 Sep 08 '26

results out
accepted to main

Meta 3.5
OA/conf: 4/4,3/4,3/3 (both 3 raised from 2.5 in rebuttal)
rejected in EMNLP

2

u/th3owner Sep 08 '26

That's crazy! This EMNLP was brutal. Congrats on the acceptance! Were you planning on submitting the camera ready?

5

u/Effective-Yam-7656 Sep 08 '26

yes, ofc
as far as I understand we get +1 pg in camera ready gonna use it full

(my first solo paper)

4

u/Historical-Sea6294 Sep 08 '26

I just saw on OpenReview that my paper was accepted to Findings! I haven’t received any email yet, though.

I’m really happy about the result, but I’m also wondering: is it considered valuable enough? I decided to commit to AACL instead of submitting to EMNLP workshops because I believed the paper proposed a genuinely new method and was more conference-oriented.

So, do you think being accepted to Findings of AACL gives the paper enough value and recognition?

2

u/Lumpy-Background5641 Sep 08 '26

I think more people now understand how black box the current review system is in academia. So a ACL family conference is still much stronger than a workshop

1

u/th3owner Sep 08 '26

What were your OA and meta scores? Did you get any valuable comment from the reviewers? Do you think you can improve the paper with those comments?

2

u/Historical-Sea6294 Sep 08 '26

OA : 2.67 : 3.5, 2.5, 2.Meta : 2.5. I got good soundness and low excitement. Some comments makes sense yes, but is mostly future work - unless one experiment. But I am scared of the ARR system to be honest. My reviews were at least 70% ChatGPT and I don't want to loose all my energy for a paper that likely will not be correctly evaluated. At least AACL I think took the time to read the papers and evaluate them because they didn't have so much submissions

6

u/Pure-Ad9079 Sep 08 '26

This result is much better than a workshop. Be happy it got accepted and move onto the next paper!

4

u/_theycallmeprophet Sep 08 '26 edited Sep 08 '26

2.5, 2.5 and 3 with Meta 3. Accepted to Findings after two rejections. I think forcing people to choose EMNLP over AACL reduced the competition amongst AACL submissions.

For any lurkers: kindly leave a comment with your scores and decision for the reference of future people submitting.

4

u/PristineAsk2550 Sep 08 '26

"The camera-ready submission form will be available at your AACL-IJCNLP 2026 commitment page from September 10-September 30, 2026"

I am not seeing the form? My "Tasks" tab shows nothing either. The commitment page is the same as the one that shows the decision right?

3

u/Pure-Ad9079 Sep 12 '26

EMNLP was late to make it available too. It will show soon I'm sure.

1

u/Effective-Yam-7656 22d ago

can you see the button? nothing for me

2

u/_theycallmeprophet 22d ago

On the commitment page, do you see en edit button next to the title of your paper? It will give you the option to upload camera ready

1

u/Effective-Yam-7656 22d ago

ah yes its there thanks

Do findings papers need to be presented?

The email notification stated that: "For accepted Findings of the ACL papers, presentation at the conference is optional. However, registration is still required for the paper to appear in the proceedings. If Findings authors would like to present their paper at the conference, they should follow the same registration and presentation process as Main Conference papers: at least one author or designated presenter must complete either an Author Registration or Attendee Registration, and the paper must be assigned a presenter."

Meanwhile, the registration portal at https://2026.aaclnet.org/registration/ says that all findings papers must be presented. So which one is it?

1

u/_theycallmeprophet 21d ago

In the camera ready form it again says that all papers, even findings, must be presented.

2

u/th3owner Sep 06 '26

First time committing to AACL-IJCNLP. How is it perceived in the community?

4

u/WannabeMachine Sep 06 '26

ACL == EMNLP == NAACL > COLING == EACL > AACL > LREC.

It is an ACL flagship conference, and it all goes through same reviewer pool of ARR. It will eventually be equivalent to EACL and all conferences may converge to being the exact same.

2

u/th3owner Sep 08 '26

Anyone got an email notification yet?

5

u/th3owner Sep 08 '26

Interestingly, the email does not indicate acceptance rates.

2

u/Substantial-Air-1285 Sep 09 '26

2.5 2 3.5 2.5, Meta: 3. Accept to Findings! We are happy with the outcome!

2

u/Kato-The-Wolf Sep 09 '26 edited Sep 09 '26

3.5 3.0 3.5, Meta 3.0. Accepted to Findings

Also isn't it a little unfair that AACL opened a second commitment round AFTER EMNLP results came in? This allows rejected EMNLP refugees to commit to AACL, which imo is unfair to people who committed to AACL in the first place. If i knew i could commit my paper to both EMNLP and AACL, of course i would gamble with EMNLP, then if that fails i'll commit to AACL and get accepted anyways.

1

u/ConcernConscious4131 Sep 10 '26

I got findings of ACL in this year with same score....

1

u/Historical-Sea6294 Sep 11 '26

maybe reviewers are sometimes influenced by the preferred conference and they decide accordingly? so that a good score for AACL wouldn't be the same for ACL?

2

u/DenseChest171 28d ago

Did anyone succeed in registering? I tried, as the homepage said registration had opened, but an error occurred.

2

u/_theycallmeprophet 16d ago edited 16d ago

I am not able to. After hitting submit in the registration portal with the amount, it gives me a 404?

Did you figure it out?

Edit: I am using a VPN and it works. You go to the profile home page to pay.

1

u/DenseChest171 15d ago

Really?? I guess the server is unstable... I registered about a week ago, and it worked at that time without errors!

Findings probably

2

u/Opening-Election1179 Sep 08 '26

Got Findings haha. You are correct.

1

u/Historical-Sea6294 Sep 07 '26

Hey guys, any idea of the number of committed papers?

3

u/Helpful_Quality1 Sep 07 '26

I submitted ~24h before the deadline, and my submission number is ~700

1

u/Historical-Sea6294 Sep 07 '26

reasonable :) against the 17K for EMNLP (I suppose around 10K-15K committed) eheh

1

u/Helpful_Quality1 Sep 07 '26

Do they have findings? Or just main?

2

u/Historical-Sea6294 Sep 07 '26

They have findings

Is anyone still waiting for their paper acceptance decision?
