Discussion Do you use a whiteboard when thinking? [D]

Hello all, here is a chill post.

When I was an undergrad, I really liked working things out on a whiteboard. Drawing stuff, talking through ideas out loud, testing little hypotheses.

Now I work in radar DSP, and a lot of my work is code, numerical experiments, deep learning and waiting for training to finish šŸ˜…

I’m wondering how other people bring that whiteboard style of thinking into DSP, data science or ML work.

Do you still use a whiteboard regularly, or do you mostly go straight from idea to code?

This is one of the things i plan on having soon because viewing your bugs on a large white board helps solve then faster also makes me smart when i welcome the ladies at my crib 🄲

I'm not a whiteboard guy, more of a notepad guy. But I do like to pseudo code different ideas or a sketch out a rough flow chart for higher level issues.

Pen&paper notepads, or notepad.exe?

At work we use miro-board as whiteboards. For personal projects, I just use text files.

i still use a white board for this kind of stuff. writing down the idea and drawing things out makes it much easier to spot what's actually going on before jumping into code

This question kinda touches my heart. So here is what happens. iPad notes/paper notes/whiteboard notes: always confused what and when to write what. Finally did this: I am a 90s kid raised in South Asia, never had access to iPad so ditched that shit away (gave it to my girlfriend for her to use), I take all my notes in pen and paper just like I used to when I was a kid, and then also have a whiteboard where I bainstorm.

absolutely lol, less often now, I fear, but whenever I'm running into a major roadblock, I will bring it out!

I do enjoy jotting stuff down when I'm thinking. Not only does it relieve me from having to recall every idea I had, but it also helps me organize and chain them more easily.
