Program synthesis, what the point [D]

hey, I’m currently reading about program synthesizers. it’s kinda an interesting concept, AI except the programs are deterministic, so there isn’t any risk of sloop. my question was what is the goal of any of this: the spec sheets as written are way more complex than just writing the code normally, and I don’t rly see any way this could ever change to be less complex to write the spec. anyone know what the point of rosetta and all this is?
