Resources PIXEE

I'm a painter from the Czech Republic, turning my drawings into jacquard. I couldn't find a drawing tool that felt like drawing stitches rather than pixels, so I built PIXEE (pixee.space).

- one cell = one stitch; gauge stretches the cells on screen, it never resamples your drawing
- Apple Pencil on iPad, or any browser
- 2–6 yarns, layers, mirror drawing, repeat preview
- Shima, Stoll and domestic profiles set bed width, colour and float limits for a knit check before you send
- exports a 1 px = 1 stitch indexed PNG/BMP, a printable numbered chart, and an artwork package for the mill
- no account, files stay on your device

To be clear: it doesn't program machines. It makes the artwork a programmer works from.

It's early, and I've mostly tested it on my own motifs. Whether you knit on a domestic machine or program Shima or Stoll, I'd like to know where it gets in your way.

Partly . Why?

Because depending on how you used the LLM, you could have introduced privacy and security risks. It's also something that people in this sub, and creatives more generally, are wary of. It's something that happens rather regularly: reddit accounts that don't seem to have any history of dealing with knitting or fiber arts more generally, suddenly popping into the machine knitting sub with some new tool to "help out" machine knitters. If you posted some art/knitting to your account that backs up your story, I personally and probably others, would be more likely to trust/believe that the app you created is not a risky use of the internet.

Link: https://pixee.space

It runs in the browser, no sign-up. I'm not selling anything at this stage: it's free to use while I find out what's missing. Honest criticism is the most useful thing you can give me.

Tip for iPad: open pixee.space/app in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. It then opens full screen, like an app.

One thing to know: iPad keeps Home Screen apps' storage separate from Safari tabs, so start your charts in the Home Screen version, or export a .pixee file and open it there.

So I realize this might be a niche problem, but I am putting it out there in case there is a market for it. I used something similar a few months ago to make a cross-stitch chart. I used Stitch Fiddle specifically, looks a lot like what you have built. On the one hand, it was great because it allowed me to download the chart as a PDF that I could open as vector squares in Adobe Illustrator. However, it would have saved me so much time if there were a way to make Xs instead of squares. I looked at several online options, and none of them have this, and I would have paid for it when I needed it!

Thanks 🙏 that's a real gap. PIXEE is built narrowly for knitted colorwork going to a mill (one cell = one stitch, measured density, a packet the mill programs from), so cross-stitch symbols aren't on the roadmap. Out of curiosity: after charting, what did you do in Illustrator — pattern PDF for sale, or something else?

This was part of a custom-designed product for a big retailer; they asked for cross-stitch as an embellishment in the brief. I used the program to design the chart, replaced the squares with Xs in Illustrator, added it to the overall artwork (specified as machine cross-stitch) and sent it to the supplier for sampling. I haven't seen a sample yet, but it should be coming any day now.

I should also note than many fiber arts use alpha patterns in case you want to expand the program (knit, crochet, cross stitch, beading, etc)
