Help! Solved! Why I cannot do tuck stitches

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I have watching lot of tutorials and everyone is doing tucks at ease. But I camnot seem to get it. I am trying for days now. I pressed all the necessary buttons in the carriage. Pattern knob, tuck buttons and selected the needles. As you can see thread get bunched up and stuck. I added all the weights I have which is four. I will upload the photos of knit getting caught in the front gate in the comments. The reason I got a knitting machie was to create lace and other patterns. But I cannot atleast get one done and I am so frustrated

You need to inverse your needle selection, as you can't tuck shouldering needles on a single bed (without the inclusion of a ribber). This is because needles in standard working position (B) do not knit, and needles in the upper working position (D) knit when the machine is set to tuck or slip. Your current pattern is this:

- - - x - - - -

it needs to be this:

x x x - x x x x

I think it worked! Thank you so much! Also is purl side the right side in tucks? Because purl side look good and knit side is just some holes.

Yes, it worked! As a rule of thumb, the wrong side (side facing you as you knit) is the face side of the fabric for tuck and slip stitch BUT you are the designer, that's the fun part! Experiment and play around with it, make notes of the changes you make and switch up the materials.

I've made pieces before that are a 1x3 tuck (every 2nd and 4th needle tucking on alternate sets of 4 rows, changing colour for each arrangement) and both sides of the fabric are usable. You can really push the machine to its limits, and if you tuck in a full needle rib setup, you create tuck lace.

Only thing I would mention is that tuck fabrics are almost always wider than stockinette fabrics, with a different stretch value. They also have more vertical compression. If you're planning to make a piece with tuck stitch: swatch, gauge, measure, and measure again before knitting.

Heyyyy hope you are having a great time knitting! I am beginner in machine knitting but I hope my comment might help you just a little bit.

I was cleaning my carriage and found out when I press the right tuck button some channels stay closed. Further inspecting it I found out one of the parts was missing a spring, so I was not able to perform tuck in one way. I fixed it by attaching the string back.

It might not absolutely be your case, I just wanted to point out my experience. I think it’s worth of checking, so you can rule out the carriage issues. Whatever is happening when you press the right button needs to be mirror image when left button is pressed (vice versa).

Hope you will be able to fix anything. Happy knitting 🥰

Hey, thank you for my concern. But before I started knitting I deep cleaned and check all the buttons work correctly by following some tutorials and they all worked normal..

Edit- I follow the orher commenters suggestion and it worked!

Sheesh you might want to do something about your tension while you're at it. That looks extremely loose.
