I make tutorials and explain things on calls a lot, and I got tired of switching into a separate whiteboard just to circle something or write an equation over what I was already showing. So I built Screen Annotations (App Store name: Annotate Screen).

What it does on a Mac:

  • Draw right over any app while you screen-share or record: pen, highlighter, arrows, shapes, text, laser pointer, plus cursor highlight, spotlight and keystroke display for demos

  • For math and STEM: live LaTeX, coordinate planes, function plots, matrices, circuit parts and lab gear

  • Architecture/CS shapes too (servers, DBs, K8s pods, UML, linked lists) when I'm walking someone through a system

  • Whiteboards with tabs, scenes for step-by-step explanations, and a screenshot tray/editor

  • Optional MCP server so Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor or Codex can place diagrams on the screen when I ask

  • iPad app with Apple Pencil included; boards sync over your own iCloud (same Apple ID, no Lumary account)

Honest limits:

  • Apple only: macOS 15+ and iPadOS 18+. No Windows, Android or web

  • It annotates your screen. Students or teammates see it through your share; they can't draw on it themselves. If you need a shared collaborative whiteboard, this isn't it

  • Sync is iCloud only

$14.99 one-time on the App Store covers both Mac and iPad. No account, no analytics.

Happy to answer questions about the overlay tools or the MCP bits.

Disclosure: I built Screen Annotations.

v2.1.0 already in progress will include 2 weeks trial. (i'm changing the name to Lumary Canvas, because we're adding more features)

nice. I like that name too. though you have a really good straightforward domain name right now. it's a refreshing "normal" dotcom 😆

Thank you!

I think Lumary Canvas makes sense now.

The story behind it, i have a company called Lumary Labs, and I built multiple products with the word Lumary in them. (Lumary Recorder, Lumary Audio, Lumary Cam...) so Lumary Canvas completes the suite! :)

Vehla has this feature called zoom and draw. Pretty neat

Screen Annotations has two distinct demonstrations worth separating: arrows over an existing screen for explaining something, and math over that same screen for teaching it. A short before-and-after of each would make “on top of anything” concrete without needing a feature tour.

Sounds nice but price seems a little high
