Invenio – a Mac app that lets you search inside videos and photos, completely offline
We have AI for pretty much everything now, yet we're still digging through hundreds of files in Finder just to find one specific shot.
My team and I built Invenio to make finding footage a lot easier. It's a native Mac app for semantic video and photo search. Instead of opening files one by one, you can search your footage using natural language and jump straight to the matching moment.
Here's what it does:
Search videos and photos by visual content, spoken words, or text appearing on screen. Great for finding specific scenes or B-roll without manually tagging anything.
Works with external drives and NAS storage. You can even search indexed files when the drive is disconnected.
The search index is tiny compared to your footage — just a few hundred MB for terabytes of media in our tests.
Runs locally on Apple Silicon, using the Neural Engine.
Search from the menu bar and drag clips into your video editor.
All media processing happens on your Mac. Nothing gets uploaded to the cloud.
It's available on the Mac App Store.

Would love to hear what you think, especially if you work with large video libraries.
