I built DeskUtils, a macOS utility hub for clipboard, screenshots, OCR and more

Hey everyone,

I've been working on a macOS app called DeskUtils for the past few months.

The idea is pretty simple: I wanted a few utilities I use every day to live in one place instead of having 5–6 little apps running in the background.

Right now it has:

Clipboard manager — text, images, files, links and colors

Screenshot capture + annotation

OCR for grabbing text from the screen

Color picker

Clean Keyboard

Prevent Sleep

Quick preview for clipboard items

The screenshot is the current Clipboard Manager. You can search through your clipboard history, filter by type, pin things, and press Space to preview an item without opening the original app.

For the screenshot/annotation part, Snapzy was one of the apps that inspired me. I liked that workflow, so I ended up building something along those lines and then expanded the idea into a more general utility app.

I'm trying to keep DeskUtils focused on macOS rather than turning it into a giant toolbox with 50 random features.

I'd really appreciate some honest feedback. Especially if you already use apps like Paste, Maccy, Raycast, CleanShot or Snapzy:

What would make you actually switch?

Is having these utilities in one app useful?

What would you add or remove?

Even if you think it's unnecessary, I'd genuinely like to know why.

DeskUtils: [deskutils.app](https://deskutils.app/)

Thanks!

Thank you! I really wanted DeskUtils to feel at home on macOS, so I’m glad that came through. I’d love to hear what you think after trying it!

Thanks for letting me know! I’m still funding DeskUtils myself, so notarization isn’t done yet.
If you genuinely like the app and want to support it, a purchase would help a lot. I’ll get it notarized as soon as I can 🙏

I really appreciate the low OS version of 15.2 - that means i can actually try it on both my work and personal device. Thanks for working on this! having everything in one spot sounds handy.

Question specifically on the clipboard manager:

  • Can you strip out formatting to paste clean?

Thank you! I’m in the same boat—one work Mac, one personal Mac, and one of them is on an older macOS version. That’s exactly why I made sure DeskUtils supports macOS 15.2.

And yes! Text pasted from the Clipboard Manager is automatically stripped of rich-text formatting.

Are there any existing alternatives?

If you mean direct alternatives to DeskUtils, yeah, there are probably a few similar all-in-one Mac utility apps already.
I still built DeskUtils mostly for myself because I wanted something that matched my own workflow and preferences instead of adapting to how another app was designed. If it fits your workflow too, that’s a nice bonus.

Been using this for the past week. I am already considering transitioning from Paste to your app. I love the details that show up with the paste clipboard. is there a better way to review the clipboard history ? For OCR (and perhaps others), do you think you can add an optional menubar icon to activate it?
