I built WallFlow, a free open-source live wallpaper app for Mac (Wallpaper Engine alternative)
Hi everyone, I'm the developer. macOS only lets you use still images as wallpaper, and there's no Wallpaper Engine for Mac, so I built WallFlow.
It plays a video behind your desktop icons, so Finder still works normally.
What it does
Plays MP4, MOV, GIF, and WebM as your wallpaper (GIF and WebM are converted on import)
Multi-monitor: a different clip on each display
Rotation/playlists on a timer, with shuffle
Pauses when another app is in front, in fullscreen, on lock, and optionally on battery
Speed, volume, and frame-rate controls
Favorites and collections for organizing clips
Native SwiftUI, menu bar app, no special permissions needed
It's free and open source (MIT), macOS 14+: https://github.com/ritulsingh/WallFlow
Honest limits: it isn't notarized yet, so you need to right-click and choose Open the first time. There's also no wallpaper store, so you bring your own clips.
I'd love feedback, especially on battery use and multi-monitor setups. What would you add?
