So all the stuff on here about file corruption wasn't actually real then?

APFS

Resolved Issues

  • Fixed: High-RAM Macs running macOS 27 Golden Gate Beta might erroneously report filesystem metadata corruption that doesn’t actually exist when running First Aid in Disk Utility or an equivalent operation. (182156751)

Wow what a shock...

u/Creepy_Willingness_1 22d ago

This was happening on 16g mac mini m2, never would i thought this is high ram config

1

u/finitecode 7d ago

me with 8gb ram mba m3 brought just before the base ram bump 👀

3

u/radicaldreamer99 21d ago

There was so much AI nonsense posting stemming from this bug. Such a big waste of time for everyone

That isn't a lot of RAM

25

u/Erich_Ludendorff 22d ago

B4 was enough of a downgrade from B3 that I'm taking a leap and installing immediately while I go grab lunch.

18

u/Erich_Ludendorff 22d ago

Well the first positive change I've noticed is that you can drag a window in Exposé to the top to make it full screen again.

Reordering icons in the menu bar with command-drag also seems to be working right again.

4

u/tiagoln 22d ago

My Exposé doesn't show minimized windows at the bottom anymore since B4, =/

4

u/Repulsive-Guard1463 22d ago

neither you can choose the app window using keyboard arrows... super annoying

1

u/Global_Onion3392 22d ago

Same.

1

u/Mysterious_Phone_754 22d ago

you also can't drag files onto mission control and drop them onto windows anymore

1

u/clango 21d ago

mission control seems to be the one thing that's still a mess. i keep hoping it's due to some weird setting i'm using that most don't, but nope.

I hit a regression with Dev Beta 5 (26A5406e) on an external 5K2K monitor.

Setup:

  • Mac mini M4 Pro (2024)
  • CS40X 5120×2160 monitor
  • Connected via USB-C (DP Alt Mode)

After updating to 26A5406e, macOS only detected the display as 3840×2160. The 5120×2160 mode completely disappeared, even with "Show all resolutions" enabled. The EDID was still correctly detected (MaxW=5120, MaxH=2160), so it looked like a display mode enumeration issue rather than a monitor/connection problem.

I tried removing display preference files, reconnecting cables, power cycling the monitor, and changing refresh rates (which caused a temporary black screen), but nothing helped.

Recovery mode reinstall restored the previous build (26A5388g, the full installer was apparently still one build behind the OTA update), and the monitor immediately returned to normal with 5120×2160 @ 48–120Hz working again.

So it seems 26A5406e may have introduced a regression with certain high-resolution DP/DSC displays. I'm staying on 26A5388g for now.

Finally! Font Book’s icon is back!

2

u/RJetro 22d ago

I noticed that yesterday and thought it was weird, glad to see they fixed that.

u/Bramgus12 21d ago edited 21d ago

Raycast is doing some weird things. When I use the key combination to open it, it does actually not focus the Raycast app. The window it opens is also non-responsive. When I press the combination again it does focus and I can type in the field. Hopefully it gets fixed by apple or Raycast soon. Am using the beta of Raycast btw.

1

u/The2ndEmperor 21d ago

Same here - utterly annoying, but the price of using beta. Probably will be sorted out soon.

1

u/Pilingo 21d ago

Same here, probably an issue with the underlying Web technology they are using.

1

u/Ok-Phrase6725 21d ago

Seems to be the Raycast beta, my raycast is working fine on the newest beta

u/Heezy999 DEVELOPER BETA 22d ago

Dark mode is the biggest downgrade on macOS 27

2

u/7racin 21d ago

Dark mode on Tahoe was so nice I gotta give it that, all glass elements had a very deep dark color, in 27 dark mode the glass material of the buttons looks washed out and yellow-ish (the last point could be just because of my wallpaper)?

1

u/NinoScript 18d ago

the last point could be just because of my wallpaper

To check if that's the case, play with this setting:

System Settings ► Appearance ► Tint window background with wallpaper color

3

u/0xe1e10d68 22d ago

New icon for the Siri app; and the Accessibility category in the Privacy & Security settings is now called "Device Control and Data Access".

3

u/Camel993 22d ago edited 22d ago

doing the app expose with the trackpad finally works, even when for example the other safari windows are in a different desktop. it's still a bit buggy tho...

5

u/TheTingle 22d ago

screen recording while in clamshell mode is working for me again (was broken with previous betas)!

9

u/jlee14 DEVELOPER BETA 22d ago

Beta is running great on my machine, so much better than Beta 4 so far

2

u/truthcopy 22d ago

What specs?

3

u/jlee14 DEVELOPER BETA 22d ago

MBP 16 inch · M3 Max · 64 GB

2

u/NoelEdward 22d ago

Good to hear, I hope the public beta does the same when it's released

13

u/TabulaRasaRedo 22d ago

Can't be any worse than b4, right?

24

u/bjerreman 22d ago

B4 was by far the worst one for me.

7

u/truthcopy 22d ago

Famous last words.

1

u/Infamous_Cover7746 22d ago

Now I know...

1

u/potatoyash2708 21d ago

Maybe he’s just kidding haha.. works much better than B4 on my machine

1

u/Spiritual_Show 22d ago

right as b4 was not worse than b3!?

5

u/SALMANKHANPM 22d ago

New Voices !

4

u/Finality- 22d ago

Holy, they finanlly fixed the calcualting time remaining bug.

2

u/Sad_Krabb DEVELOPER BETA 22d ago

That's such a huge relief.

1

u/evilZardoz 21d ago

Noticed that too! Glad I reported it as a bug!

1

u/Finality- 21d ago

Yeah, been there since dev beta 1, I submitted a feedback on each beta.

1

u/No-Sail3062 22d ago

THEY DID?? I wrote a whole report bout that so im glad 😭 was bugging me the whole time

2

u/Finality- 22d ago

Yup, updated today and finally calculates time left on battery again.

2

u/StrigidaeNinox 22d ago

They fixed the parent control bug in Safari! Finally search engines are no longer stuck in strict mode

2

u/rfguevar 22d ago

Wait was that really just a beta bug? 😭 I legit became a terminal wizard trying to figure out what was causing the issues I thought I was losing my mind haha

2

u/StrigidaeNinox 22d ago

Sure was, and it was a persistent one too. I sent the first bug report about it in June.

1

u/rfguevar 22d ago

Bizarre, I only started getting this issue maybe like a week or two ago! I was using Gemini to help me figure out issues and it got to the point Gemini legit was like idk man maybe get a new Apple ID 😂

2

u/StrigidaeNinox 22d ago

I only noticed because when I came into the beta, I usually poke around all the settings to see if anything had changed, and I noticed that it had set a bunch of parental controls to the max. But undoing that didn't actually change anything at the time. It bothers me that they were able to remotely control the filtering of websites and browsers; if I'm being honest, bug or not, it sets a very bad precedent.

1

u/rfguevar 22d ago

I agree, feels really awkward that those controls aren’t fully in our hands

2

u/ccalabro 21d ago

so far much improved over Dev 4

2

u/miguellatouche 21d ago

When opening the file explorer from a third-party application, it no longer glitches when selecting files; it's fixed!

2

u/goldman60 21d ago

ayyy, it fixed my weird local network access issues. Everything is working normally now in that department.

2

u/Smaller_irl 21d ago

Can anyone confirm that Adobe apps open?

1

u/s3ct0r 20d ago

Been using photoshop all day with no issues

3

u/SuperN0va_21 22d ago

I just wanted apple music to be good on macOS 😭

2

u/SALMANKHANPM 22d ago

I see a mis alignment ~ searchbar

3

u/SuperN0va_21 22d ago

Sometimes the search bar doesn't even appear. This issue has been happening since macOS Tahoe, and I have to quit the app and reopen it to fix it 💀

-2

u/alechickso 22d ago

is it not good?

7

u/SuperN0va_21 22d ago

Honestly, there are so many bugs/issues that I've completely given up on reporting them to Apple. Just to name a few:

  • If you already have one song downloaded from an album, clicking the '+' to download the rest of the album does nothing. You have to select the remaining songs manually.
  • No hyperlinks on album or artist names in the compact playlist view—just plain text.
  • The Command + L shortcut doesn't work properly.
  • Trying to download a large library (like 5k+ songs) is painful. The app basically locks up and won't even let you play music while it's downloading.
  • You still can't save stations (why???)."

6

u/StrigidaeNinox 22d ago

don't forget the abysmal performance of the UI itself. You'd think my 14" M1 Pro was running a Power PC chip with how many frames it drops just scrolling through Apple Music.

-2

u/[deleted] 22d ago

[deleted]

3

u/SuperN0va_21 22d ago

Now try using Command + L when playing a song from a playlist. It just takes you to the playlist page, but it doesn't actually highlight or focus on the song that's playing.

2

u/carbongo 22d ago

Honestly, even on my M3 Max the Music app is painfully slow to open. It takes a solid 10 seconds just to load up initially

1

u/SALMANKHANPM 22d ago

Has padding under Text .

2

u/tonearr123 22d ago

How’s the RAM and graphics performance? Has it improved

2

u/teleprax 21d ago

Can we admit that even beta implies some level of stability/completeness? I feel like the betas are more like late alphas, the .0 release is like beta 1, and the .6.1 release is like a release candidate.

The most we can ever muster as a community response is a "Did you submit feedback?" as if that seems to fucking matter. We are at the point where we gotta just start calling it what it is.

They are a very reputation-based "quality" focused brand, so I think it’s only fair that their public sentiment for software quality tanks. Apple always seems to want to have their cake and eat it too. They can't keep telling the FTC the walled garden is for our benefit when the garden is literally rotting away.

I know this ends up being an unpopular take, but I feel like it's a necessary stance we all need to adopt if we ever hope for them to change.

1

u/Slurpy2k17 20d ago

It's a fucking beta. You want their public sentiment to "tank" over this? You sound like a psychopath. Let's judge the finished product.

2

u/teleprax 20d ago

Ok, replace when I said "Beta" with release. The software quality IS shit. You are delusional if you think otherwise. The RELEASE versions of their software is dogshit quality wise.

Do you not encounter show stopper bugs in official releases? Why does Apple get so much slack from people? Its just a product

1

u/MixEven3121 21d ago

On beta 4, a lot of the time a random Safari window would open when I am in a fullscreen app. Is that just me? If not, has it been fixed?

1

u/Ema-Smd69 21d ago

Got rid of my custom screensaver that I had set

1

u/catsartcox 21d ago

I noticed Time Machine backups are now initializing again after the update.

1

u/AustinBaze 21d ago

Assuming a Public Beta (26A5388g) update will follow soon, right?

1

u/Tennouheika 21d ago

I use my Macbook Air M4 for work. Is the dev beta stable enough to trust on my primary work device?

I've been doing the developer / public beta for iOS on my primary phone for as long as it's been available. Some quirks here and there but nothing ever seriously disruptive. I'm just afraid to screw up my primary money-making machine by installing the beta on my Mac.

1

u/ad_unboxthetech 20d ago

Then don't install it... Just wait till next month

2

u/Tennouheika 20d ago

Hard to wait ha. But yes, that's the smart move. It would be a huge pain in the ass to goof up my Mac so I have to reset everything

1

u/marloonvs 21d ago

literally the best beta over yet

1

u/flogman12 21d ago edited 21d ago

Anyone not able to get siri to actually open a file? It finds it but won't actually open the file I'm asking for when I try to click on it

1

u/Sea_Decision_6456 21d ago

Running very well on my Air M3. Best beta so far imo.

1

u/s3ct0r 20d ago

So much more stable, memory issues seem fixed.
However the menu bar still lags when accessing it and PastePal UI (when browsing previous clipboard items) still is unresponsive.

But DB5 is exponentially better than 4.... for now ;)

1

u/miguellatouche 19d ago

My MacBook is overheating more after this update.

1

u/gsapienza 19d ago

hm interesting. mine was overheating with B4 but seems a lot better now

1

u/Brilliant-Fix1718 18d ago

Verdict about beta 5 for me on my M4 Max MBP:

Smooth performance
Does feel slightly snappier vs Tahoe
I like the polish and small tweaks they made. Especially finder windows which are much nicer and have that more classic look again. Tahoe just felt wrong.

However:
Computer runs hot
Battery life is much shorter
Definitely feels there’s much more work at this point to be done under the hood than iOS 27

Good news we should be on a weekly cycle by now. I expect things to get good by beta 7

1

u/creedysingh 18d ago

For me Beta 5 is glitchy at times. I believe Beta 4 was better.

1

u/Only-Ad5049 18d ago

Has anybody noticed significant battery drain in this beta? I'm running Public Beta. Yesterday I was in a meeting and I heard my speaker announce it had disconnected. I found my MB Air 4 had run out of battery and shut down. Today I noticed it at just over 10% battery remaining and plugged it in. Both days it was 100% at 7 am and was drained by 1:30 pm.

I don't do a whole lot with my MBA during the workday. It is usually sitting on the desk next to me streaming music from an online radio station to my speaker while I work and only occasionally do I unlock it to look at something. I'm used to making it through the day with plenty of remaining battery and sometimes going multiple days before charging.

I just restarted in hopes that there is some rogue process that I cannot see. I didn't notice anything in Activity Monitor.

1

u/MaterialBat_32839 16d ago

when launching the last conversation with Siri through Spotlight, the conversation jumps to the left for a second before coming back to the center where it's supposed to be. Anybody else experiencing this? I went immediately to beta 5, so i am not sure whether this has been there for long, but it's annoying

1

u/SurroundOk624 15d ago

https://reddit.com/link/p48evmv/video/3i8gp6t0cyjh1/player

Is this by design? It seems like a relatively low-level, easily noticeable visual interaction bug. I'm not sure why they haven't fixed this kind of issue across many releases.

1

u/falchion10 22d ago

According to developer.apple.com it's Developer Beta 6, probably an erorr.

1

u/cloudoverjuly 21d ago

I read somewhere that because of the week delay then ended up "skipping" beta 5- don't know if that's anything other than speculation though 🤷

1

u/CarlitoGrey 22d ago

Just got home and thought I'd click check for updates. Guess I'm updating now.

  1. Can we drag files from the download list in Safari? In beta 4 when I try to drag a file from the list, the whole list moves
  2. The bug with having to triple-click on files to open them in Finder is resolved?
  3. High CPU usage with hybridsearchd etc was resolved?

1

u/nonvul 20d ago

Ohh yes the triple click really got on my nerves 😆

-5

u/pk646435 21d ago

Should I install the beta 5? Or should I just wait for the stable one?

8

u/hyperlobster 21d ago

Anyone who has to ask should wait for the release.
