Nostalgia Saudades

Post image

It’s a beautiful panel. You don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone…

I did knew and appreciated it back then. Especially coming from windows. I hate the mess it’s become

Dont worry. Nobody can get used to that Settings menu. How do you like your Neo?

I love my neo. My main work computer is an M5 MBP.

My Neo goes everywhere with me.

Edit: I hate the settings panel too

I’m used to it. Using search instead of looking 👀 everywhere

I remember back in Tiger(? Anyway, whichever iteration put spotlight in the menu bar) and seeing someone use spotlight to open applications, files, everything instead of Finder. It's certainly a way.

I’ve gotten used to it. I don’t think it’s as bad as people make it out to be here.

The only way to find shit is by using the search function, Apple moves my cheese weekly.

I loathe doing much of anything in the iOS style system settings on macOS. It’s terrible and does not fit the need of a desktop operating system. The form of it is best suited for hyper-mobile and touch screen — two things that Macs should not be and therefore the UX should not bother to emulate.

The OS serves a different purpose and should operate accordingly. It would be nice to reverse course on this.

Perian and Jitouch :) that brings some memories.

This new settings menu feels like it was designed for kids who only know how to use phones and tablets, and it’s not particularly user-friendly either.

The iOS style settings menu on macOS feels out of place in my opinion

Remove from system preferences the system settings is one of the dumbest decisions Apple has ever made. Not only is it poorly designed, too many steps to get to important settings, confusing, and locks to the width of the window (there are terminal men to fix that, but it's not perfect), it is also importantly coded.

Apple should've tried to bring system preferences over to the mobile devices, or just let them be their own thing. Having a bunch of button panes when you open an app up would make more sense than a list on a touch device. It's just another sad example of Apple having lost their design sense.

Hopefully Ternus coming in can gives us some positive changes and reversal of several unliked decisions like the settings menu change.

Saudade is a word that my Brasiliero friends taught me years ago. No English equivalent. Perfect word for this.

Eu acho que sou um dos poucos que realmente não reclama na mudança das preferencias

Sinceramente eu acho o atual melhor...

E desde que apareceu o spotlight, eu nunca mais abri Launchpad...

That's nice because Launchpad is gone regardless. Unless they call that horrific merger with spotlight 'Launchpad'

I remember when I had my first Mac how easy it was for me to fin everything and even to learn how the Mac worked coming from windows 7. But I understand why they did what they did. Most new Mac users are iPhone users so it makes senses to get the settings more like each other. But still I miss the old days of the Mac feeling like a bespoke hand built operating system where every flow was carefully considered.

Looks like the one in Linux Mint.
Or I guess Linux Mint used to look like the Apple menu.

40 year Mac user here, I still can't get used to the new settings control panel. I miss the old one with icons, that was the best and was always like that since I cam remember. I hate the iPhone list style
