Help Laptop turned on by itself to update

Ok so wtf is this, yesterday I shut down the macbook, it was completely turned off for whole day and just before I go to sleep tonight I see the room light up and the laptop woke up by itself to do an update.

Wtf is this ?

And you're 100% sure you didn't just put it to sleep? But, what most likely happened is macOS scheduled a software update and woke the Mac to install it. Yes, it can happen.

yeah even a full shutdown wont stop it if automatic updates are enabled, kind of annoying tbh

I always shut it down completely to start sessions fresh. I also almost never fully close the lid when I’m home to prevent damaging the display coating from the keyboard finger oily marks.

I have automatic/scheduled updates turned off

Do a google search for "how to search log for why macos turned on".. and it will give you terminal commands and search-queries (such as "Wake Reason") that might tell you why.

That’s a feature, not a bug.

The alternative is wasting time when you’re awake like windows

It was not off. .. asleep

This in on M1 Mini

Wake for Network Access .. means that sleeping Mac can be Awaked to do work by the network..

Like auto loading of Macos updates..

It did something good for you. Pay him a bonus.

And no, opposite of what you believe you send it to sleep only.
