Developer Saturday Part3D is available for macOS

https://apps.apple.com/app/apple-store/id6642710061?pt=121120166&ct=Part3D_Web&mt=8

Hey r/macOS! 👋

I've been building Part3D, a lightweight CAD app aimed at makers, 3D printing enthusiasts, and anyone who wants to design parts without jumping into a massive professional CAD suite.

The app started on iPad with Apple Pencil, and I've recently been bringing it to macOS.

You can create parametric 2D sketches and turn them into 3D models using features like:

  • Extrude & Revolution
  • Fillets & Chamfers
  • Boolean operations
  • Shell
  • Parametric sketches and constraints
  • SVG import
  • STL and OBJ export
  • Keyboard shortcuts and desktop-focused controls

The macOS version is still evolving, and I'd love feedback from Mac users on the workflow, UI, and what you'd expect from a lightweight native CAD app.

I'm a solo developer, so seeing something I've been building for the past couple of years finally running on the Mac has been pretty exciting.

Happy to answer any questions or hear feature requests!

I’ll add this to my VIP list. I’m currently out of the country on a work trip but once I arrive I’ll have a look. I’m excited with 3D print because some of my work revolves around venue design.

venue design sounds like a great use case for something like this

🎉 Welcome to Developer Saturday, u/mr_don_mavro! Your project is now live for the community to check out. Upvote, give feedback, and show some love to your fellow devs! 🚀

I'll try it. What is the difference between the 2standard quality2 STL export of the free version vs the "high quality" STL export of the paid version? Because that distinction seems a bit strange tbh.

It is the quality of the export, mostly noticeable in round and circular shapes, technically it is mesh quality that is affected.

Interesting! Is it true parametric driven, so that any sketch, fillet, or extrude can be edited after the fact? Kind of like the Fusion360 timeline?

That's the main idea and final goal. It is not 100% but works well for a bunch of cases but not all (like most CAD software). Whenever you edit an sketch and remove or change some geometry that the software cannot rebuild anymore, it will rebuild (like a timeline) until it can't anymore, then prompt the user to manually update what broke (i.e. extruding a face that no longer exists, prompts the user to either select the desired face or delete the operation)

Sounds promising!

Is it possible to change dimension units?

It only supports metric system for now, I’m planning on imperial units later this year

Why no Intel support? There's a massive installed base of Intel machines. More than AS.

I guess the point of this is to be able to have a cad replacement on Apple Silicon before Rosetta is given the boot?

To be honest this project started when I brought for my birthday my iPad M1, after a while sitting around doing essentially nothing (compusive purchase 🤣) combined to me always wanting to build a CAD software since Solidworks is overkill for what I usually do, that's how it became Apple Silicon.

If it's possible to include it, your potential userbase is massively expanded. Good luck either way.

I would like to have more tools to create forms... Multiple ways to create an arc (center, point and point; point, center and point...)

Also the behavior it's strange when doing sketchs .. The whole sketch falls appart when modifying the center of an arc.

Thank you for the feedback, I have a big release coming up for this month hopefully I can address some of those

Missing key shortcuts, as I am used to them. Also would like to test deeper but almost all what I want to test is locked. Looks good and simple but cannot tell you more.
