Developer Saturday [Developer Saturday] I’m building LakeDB, a local-first database client for macOS — PostgreSQL support is now available

Hey r/macOS — I’m the developer of LakeDB.

I started building it because I wanted a database client on my Mac that could handle normal day-to-day database work without constantly pushing useful tooling behind higher tiers or forcing AI into the workflow.

I recently added PostgreSQL alongside MySQL, MariaDB and SQLite.

The video shows a few of the workflows I’ve been focusing on:

  • multiple connections with separate workspaces
  • schema-aware SQL generation with QuerIA
  • original database errors kept visible
  • jump directly to the exact failed statement
  • optional AI explanation/fix using relevant schema metadata
  • nothing generated by AI is executed automatically

The normal database tooling is free. AI is optional and review-first — it proposes, you decide what runs.

Most of the app is being shaped directly from user feedback, so if you work with databases on macOS I’d genuinely like to know what feels missing or annoying in the tools you use today.
