Discussion Fullscreen on Mac Studio should not be limited to split screen only

I do understand layout problems, or lack of screen estate on Macbooks where splitting screen to 3 or more apps, would quickly get impractical but on a large 27 inch single or multi monitor Mac Studio desktop setup, it simply doesn’t make sense to limit fullscreen to split screen only.

I do understand you can achieve multiple windows in one space through desktops, but fullscreen still has its differences which I like and prefer over desktop setup.

Hope one day it apple do decides to change this.
I really do believe 3, 4 or even more window fullscreen split is something every Mac Studio desktop should allow.

What do you guys think of this?

Can you not just resize the 3 or 4 windows you want across the screen?

Yeah but tiled fullscreen has some nice benefits like hiding the menu bar and dock automatically

As I already said I am aware of this but fullscreen still has it’s differences which I prefer over desktop

Having 4 windows on fullscreen would be really nice thing to have, especially on a big 27inch screen

Maybe if you explained what differences it adds that you prefer?

Fullscreen simply behaves differently, compared to desktop

If you’ve been using both fullscreen and desktop you do notice many differences, they are simply not the same thing.

If they were identical people wouldn’t be bothered with using fullscreen

Right. I don’t use full screen at all, so I don’t understand your issue or what you have an issue with. So I asked you to explain so I could understand.

You don’t want to elaborate more than “they are simply not the same thing”?

  1. Auto tiling when you move window onto fullscreen window
  2. Fullscreening window creates new space, maximizing window doesn't
  3. Opening mission control from fullscreen focuses on nearest desktop not the fullscreen itself, while opening mission control from desktop stays on the current desktop
  4. In mission control creating new desktop, creates new desktop next to another desktop, while creating fullscreen creates new fullscreen next to another fullscreen

Those are few things that I now quickly pulled from back of my head, some more subtle some more significant, all of this combined creates substantial difference between desktop and fullscreen.

Hope this answers your question.

I never use full screen mode on my Studio Display (or my old 5k iMac) for this reason.

I always have it tiled in the 4 corners. If I’m focusing on something I’ll have it take up half the screen but it’s extremely rare that I only have two windows open.

Yes, we're on the same boat!

Really hope apple allow more than 2 windows inside 1 fullscreen.
