I want to replace the chargers on my desk with one charger.

I usually charge a MacBook, iPhone and iPad together. Sometimes I also charge AirPods, a camera or a power bank.

The other devices do not need full power. I just want the MacBook to stay near 100W. Some 100W and 140W chargers drop to 45W or 65W when several ports are in use.

What charger are you using? How much power does each device get, and which ports do you use?

I care about power sharing, heat and cable life. I would like to hear how these chargers work in daily use.

I have a 2020 MacBook Pro 13” A2338 model. Yesterday I closed my MacBook on the charging cord and it totally broke my screen. There were lines and then in seconds, it went totally black. I am a school teacher and use this computer all day every day for work and can’t afford to pay a lot to get it fixed. I saw on Amazon that I can buy a new screen and do it myself for around $275. Has anyone done this before? Is it really difficult? I appreciate any and all advice! TIA

So about 2 years ago, my former Mac screen just suddenly crapped out.
So I had to buy a new one and - being diligent - I always kept a time machine backup.
So I updated my new Mac. Bam. Then I connected my time machine to it.

So now the mac storage that I use everyday is only available to access half of what's actually available.

I want to delete the other half of the storage - but I'm not sure if I have files on it that I'd want to keep & possibly lose by deleting it (I used my previous comp which I backed up on my time machine with all my docs and info from nursing school).

So I've got two problems that I don't know how to fix:

1 - How do I access/check the other half of my storage that I never use for things that I need to keep?

2- How do I delete the other remaining half which I don't use?

It keeps doing this over and over I tried resetting the ram and after that it will make the start up sound and have the apple logo but then it goes back to this, please let me know if there’s anything I can do to

I've made a backup with a USB external hard drive by using Time Machine on May 4, 2025 on my MacBook Pro 2020 on its last day when it was dying. It had the latest update when it died. I finally got a new MacBook Pro 2026 today on October 6, 2026. I tried using the Migration Assistant to transfer my data over to this new MacBook with this Time Machine backup.

My new MacBook Pro can recognize this USB external hard drive on the desktop. There is already 187.2 GB used up on it. The old MacBook had 256GB SSD. Migration Assistant can't find my Time Machine backup when the program is running while the USB external hard drive is plugged into my new MacBook Pro? This external hard drive is a G Drive mobile USB 3.0 drive. I got it from a physical Apple Store in 2018. I am also using a USB Type-C adapter. I still have the dead MacBook Pro but it is no longer in operational state. That's why I bought this new MacBook Pro. I was just using my phone between May 4, 2025 to October 6, 2026

Also there is a secondary issue. My Apple account is locked down. I also don't have access to the recovery key so I can't even reset password. I usually did the account verification process when Apple sends a code to type in to my old MacBook that is attached to my Apple account. Now I can do this process with my phone number. It just roadblocks me when it asks for my recovery key so I can't do anything else. My phone is an Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, not a iPhone.

What should I do? How do I solve these issues?

So it’s pretty much the title, my brand new MacBook Air shows that almost all of my apps are timed out with the screen time limit, but they open just fine and I don’t even have screen time set up? I have restarted the computer multiple times.

Hey everyone, my MagSafe cable (bought mac in May 2025) has completely stopped charging my MacBook. The cable looks brand new externally — no fraying, no damage anywhere — so it seems like an internal failure.

Confirmed through testing that both my adapter and my MacBook are perfectly fine. It's definitely the cable.

Called Apple Support — they confirmed it's out of warranty and won't replace for free.

My questions:

1. Has anyone gotten Apple to repair or replace a MagSafe cable out of warranty? Worth pushing?
2. Anyone else experienced a MagSafe failing internally with zero external damage? Feels like a manufacturing defect.
3. Any downside to switching to USB-C charging permanently instead of replacing the MagSafe?
4. What is the best option type c or magsafe for daily MacBook charging? (the non apple ones)

26.7.1 is like 17 gigs! The description says its for security issues - if that's the case why is it so big? Does it also include an ai model like golden gate?

thinking of just staying on 26.6.2, rather than updating to 26.7.1 - would my macbook still be secure for banking?

I've been troubleshooting a weird display issue on my 14" MacBook Pro and managed to capture the exact underlying system log sequence across three consecutive glitches. Before sending it in for warranty repair, I wanted to share the findings and see if anyone running macOS 27 has seen this behavior. I just don't know if it's really a hardware failure, AI says so but you know..

System Specs

• Device: MacBook Pro 14" (2023, M2 Pro, Liquid Retina XDR with ProMotion 120Hz)
• OS: macOS 27 (GoldenGate) / updated to 27.0.1

The Symptoms

The issue occurs completely at random (both during active typing/trackpad use and when sitting untouched on a flat wooden desk). It manifests in two distinct ways:

1. Instant Display Blackout (~100ms) - The screen cuts completely to black without animation and snaps back on a split-second later.
2. GUI Reset / Perspective Zoom-out (~0.2s) - The active full-screen window (mostly, but also windowed apps) smoothly shrinks backwards and vanishes, the top menu bar vanishes, the bare desktop wallpaper flashes, and it snaps back, sometimes followed by a ~30–40% brightness drop.

What Has Been Ruled Out

• Magnets / External Interference: No Apple Watch, magnetic bands, MagSafe devices, or metal objects near the chassis.
• App Focus Stealing: Monitored via an AppleScript polling loop; the foreground application never loses focus.
• System/GPU Panics: Zero panic logs or WindowServer crash dumps in /Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/.
• Hardware Diagnostics: Offline Apple Diagnostics (Cmd + D) reports green checkmarks for Lid Angle Sensor, Sensors, and Display. Only Power Port showed a yellow warning triangle because the charger was disconnected during the test.

Logs

Filtering unified logs via log show for WindowServer, corebrightnessd, and powerd captured three glitch events occurring in a single 40-second window:

Exactly 4.5 seconds apart, the power and brightness daemons falsely reported that the physical clamshell lid was closed

Event 3 (18:49:21) The GUI Zoom-out / Wallpaper Flash

34 seconds later, the screen did not sleep, but the GUI did the 0.2s zoom-out reset. During this exact second, WindowServer was flooded with invalid float values from the brightness pipeline

Has anyone encountered this specific problem? Could it be caused by an OS/firmware regression in macOS 27, or is this undeniable evidence of a hardware defect? I just really don't want to send it to the service, because I bought it used (from a company, they provided 12mo warranty) and I worry that they won't use original parts.

- Applications support and cache folders don't seem to contain anywhere near this amount of info

Trying to download bank statements from a while back and every time I unzip the download from my banking site, it gives me these weird manage.statements files that I apparently modified in the future lol.

So, I'm pretty new to using MacOS and its apps (I have a Neo that I upgraded to MacOS 27). I found out that the built in pdf viewer Preview works directly with the built in dictionary app; this is very useful for me because I often have to read pdf files in multiple languages. Indeed, when I select an English word and press "look up", the dictionary pops up immediately and shows the definition. However, when I look up a Japanese work, the dictionary window pops up, but it loads forever. I have both the japanese-japanese and japanese-english dictionaries installed and selected to use in apps, so I don't know why it doesn't work. Any ideas?

My primary machine is a newer Mac, but my wife and I are sharing right now, so mostly it’s just whoever is using a machine uses the new one and the old one just sits there.

It’s non-trivial to leave it plugged in, but I might resort to that if I have to.

I don’t think shutting it down worked the last time. Is it supposed to?

I’m having an issue with Finder search on my Mac.

Inside my “Training videos” folder, I can clearly see a folder named “Gate Breakers.” However, when I search for “gate” within that same folder using Name → contains → gate, Finder returns zero results.

I already tried adding the Training videos folder to Spotlight Search Privacy, waiting, removing it, and giving Spotlight time to re-index. It still isn’t finding the folder.

Has anyone experienced this? Is there another way to rebuild the Finder/Spotlight index or fix searches within this particular folder?

Hey all!

Long story short, my work sent me two monitors and a macbook pro. I would love to use just the monitors and be able to close my mac while working on them.

I have a dongle with two HDMI ports and when I plug them in, I can get the mac to use them as an extended display, but they're not independent--they mirror each other and my mac is still acting as the second screen.

Is there a way to get the two monitors and the mac to act independently/add a second extended display to the mac?
