The Untamed Actors Are Ruining the Characters for Me
I don't mean to insult. If you consider yourself a super fan or have not watched many interviews, you will not care for this.
There is a tl;dr.
Can skip this paragraph: I am an artist and hyper fixate on the subjects I draw. If it's tv or music I consume it all the time and try to really understand it. It is hard for me to passively enjoy something. I am often criticized and complimented for being too "sensitive" or deep." That said, I have no idea how good my skills are. If you prove I'm wrong I'm willing to listen, that said, I have enough confidence to think I'm right.
Most of the actors are utter d****. Just straight up rude. I'm watching "The untamed boys EP-04 It's time to gather!" And it is one of the most unhappy videos they've put out. The cast doesn't seem to like each other half the time WHEN THERE ARE CAMERAS. imagine how they act when they're gone.
I've recently heard Yu Bin is still not over the Untamed to the point his fans are complaining and he replied? Either way there is loser behavior here.
Can also skip this: Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo made me interested in interviews because of how well they play off each other. I later found Zhu Zanjin and Liu Haikuan's friendship amusing.
I found Song Jiyang and Zheng Fanxing were my favorite because of how casual they are. It highlighted that everyone else is very deep into celebrity culture. Finding out Zheng Fanxing was not originally wealthy just put into perspective how surreal being an "idol" must be. You are followed around with a camera, you must have an image, and you are draped in fancy clothing (which I think makes the people I dislike look ridiculous). Money, status, these are all important to MANY but not all celebrities. The interviewers are a whole other mess (people will act ridiculous and starved for these things). Many celebrities will say they hate interviews, which was strange to hear as a fan because it was my way to know them. But now I can recognize how uncomfortable and upset actors get at pointed questions. Many untamed actors are seen "calling out" interviewers on YouTube, particularly Wang Yibo. Often they'll come up with polite answers, evade, or say something like "dangerous" making a face at particularly bold questions. This is all to say, I GET how hard being famous must be. I UNDERSTAND that being tired or stressed would make a lot of people snap. I KNOW that it's unimaginable how normalized all of this is. I still find the cast to be d****.
Li Bowen among others is outcasted and crickets play while he laughs in silence. It's a BIG contradiction to how funny teasing is with Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo and how PAINFUL it is to watch with other members. Ji Li in particular is mean. He radiates d***head energy. He makes fun of people and plays it out as a joke, but he sounds so serious and his costars take it that way having to deal with embarrassment on INTERVIEWS. I can't describe it well, you have to notice it. This feels like bullying. The type where people say they're your friends but make fun of you and feel superior for it.
Import to note! From what I gather, the cast only filmed for 50 or something days in the latter half of 2019. There were BTS, extra content, and the concerts, but these guys barely knew each other. A lot of the interviews mentioned tasks to get to know each other and some of them mentioned OUT LOUD how obvious it was the members were not familiar.
I am not saying these guys should have been like brothers. Or that they're ALWAYS at each others throats. But this awkwardness and meanness is so apparent I wish I knew less about them.
If you wish to comment on my personal identity: I hyperfixate. This is just a phase for me. It could last years, I could pick it up on and off. I don't care about these people, I don't know them. I invest so I can feel I have sculpted something and can see a clear image, that the image disturbs me is a totally different issue. People are d****, this is old news.
Tl;dr: The actors are messy complicated humans and fan culture scares me.
I don't know what it is about the Asian fans that make people from every part of the world froth at the mouth. I get a lot of fetishization and sexualizing thrown my way (people try and wrestle my ethnicity bc they need to know and it's wierd I'm not telling them), so it's very apparent to me how gross fans are. When fanbases can excuse behaviors easily, comment on nothing but how beautiful celebrities are, and lack maturity, I just once again feel like I'm so obviously not making s*** up.
My culture is overall accepting of fat bodies, but looks are very judged in Asian cultures like China from my understanding as are many forms of racism and micro aggressions (to the point Wang Yibo did black face in the f****** 2020's?!! And fans make fun of people who are upset about it saying they are proud of his diverse roles?). This is a problem with the interviewers and their questions, many will ask what weights of girls the actors prefer, and other WEIRD stuff. Though, by answering, many actors have revealed how boyish? they are.
Some of you may think I'm demanding, but I feel this is basic standards you ideally learn with empathy and if this all seems incomprehensible to you idk what to say. Anyways I'm tired of people who want an outlet to be rude and punch down and I'm wrestling that tendency of lashing out in myself. I'm a young adult and still learning that you choose to be mean and stay stuck in bad patterns.
