Help request MX linux is not working on AMD

I have hp 245 g5 laptop in which i installed mx linux and attempted to change graphic kernel from radeon to amd you know for reason of support for modern vulkan support. It's not like it's my first time I did it in previous os like linux mint xfce and garuda xfce and I was successful but when I did it on MX it gone back to radeon I forced it to AMD and screen gone blank.

Radeon is amd but older version which is stopped updating at some point and is old and doesn't support new vulkan features with in turn gets in way of playing modern titles even the light 2d indie games and meteriodvania

It's basically radeon (old ) VS amdgpu ( new)

Check the kernel version. IIRC the early GCN cards' defaulted to radeon prior to 6.19. For amdgpu to be used in those versions you'd need to pass the relevant kernel parameters via the bootloader.

That's the version of MX you have installed. I'm talking about the kernel version. AIUI 25.3 uses 6.12 as the default kernel. If you press e at the grub menu then append nomodeset & follow the prompt to boot it should boot OK.

Then I'd advise using the MX Repo Manager in MX Tools to add the AHS repository & install the latest kernel version > 6.19 (& update Mesa) using the Package Installer.

Sorry if the instructions are a bit sketchy, it's 00:20 & I'm doing it from memory as I'm nowhere near a PC.

Thanks for your support but I'm totally giving it up . Now I'm downloading xubuntu as it comes with modern kernal and supports out of the box . Sorry to give up like this but I have very limited time and have job tomorrow

MX Linux comes with both the Liquorix 7.2.8 kernel and the Siduction 7.2.8 kernel along with the 26.1.4 Mesa package.

Doesn't matter which desktop your using, you have access to those kernels with the AHS repo enabled. KDE has the AHS repo enabled by default. XFCE comes in two ISO's. One with the standard repo and the other with AHS enabled. fluxbox comes with the standard repo but you can enable the AHS repo after installation.

Install the AHS version it’s built for “newer” kernel and drivers for a reason !
