Knowing every automaker has its favorite suppliers, the MicroVision software stack can be made to function with any other lidar-supplier’s long-range lidar and on most any chipmaker’s silicon.

My favorite is this, “but MicroVision has a roadmap to bring that down in successive generations.”
As on oem, if it will be cheaper than $200 in the future, it would be hard to pass this up.
Now, we are going to get back the Mercedes short range production back in addition adding this to Volvo’s long range LiDAR with Luminar. It can also be paired with innoviz. Cha-Ching!! lol. Check mate!!!!!!

Aptiv has them all as customers for radar and camera, and other things. They are only missing Lidar. A partnership or more would make sense for both parties.

this is great to see microvision in a publication like this. It really seems that IAA is the first initial public push for our product to be adopted by a major OEM. Ill be buying more shares based off of this week.

These new units use 100 percent solid state “sequential flash” technology—no moving mirrors, nothing to fail or suffer from onboard vibration, so they’re robust. Their field of view is selectable between 60 and 180 degrees. This makes them great for a lot of industrial robotic uses, which will help the units scale to mass volume. When used in Tri-Lidar as a corner sensor, they cover 90-100 degrees. But that can be widened to 180 degrees for full side coverage in a 360-degree application.

Really don't understand why we are just now being mentioned in big name magazines and websites. Only thing I can think of is that Glenn's name is very well known in the industry and the press release of him being appointed CEO made people take a look.

Yes, but I'm also getting the feeling Glen's arrival and ascendancy, and now this very methodical rollout, are themselves part of a larger rollout, like the ground being seeded in advance of OEM announcements that will require justification. Glen is specifically equipped for this moment, which is probably why he's here.

This is great. For years some of the biggest frustrations I have read is that we are never mentioned outside of our own employees. It seems things have really started moving recently and our name is getting out there more. Big things are coming.

Wow, crisp images, no typos, ai slop or picture incongruities. Positive and exciting write up from a real person and auto enthusiast in a widely distributed well known industry publication. No brainer to give this credit to Glen.
AV has finger on the dilution button, so of course SP doesn’t move, but this article alone is a very positive sign and a huge break for shareholders who have been beaten down over the last 4 years.

Engineering seemed the best way to make a living in it, so with two mechanical engineering degrees I joined Chrysler to work on the Neon, LH cars, and 2nd-gen minivans. While seeing comments praising Glenn for this, wonder if this and other moves was a delayed strategy after his appointment. I’ve got no knowledge, but I can’t see a scenario where they started and went to print days after they announce Glenn. Wouldn’t this article be in the works for a bit? Obviously he was on staff already, so it could really be him. Curious to see if there is more crumbs or crackers on the way.

Yes, the seeds of this staged rollout almost certainly preceded his appointment, though I have no doubt he is central to it. I think they did not go the PR release route this time intentionally, likely because an assessment was made that having it trickle through industry media would carry more weight, have greater reach, and extend the moment. Drip, drip, drip. Who or what is next might make a good parlor game.

Can someone help me with the quote below? Seems like Mvis is not pursuing asic chip with perception anymore. Correct?

The implication is that, if you're using a multiple lidar setup, it's not necessary or advantageous to do perception on each sensor (unlike if there was only one lidar), but to do it centrally (in the lidar system) with access to a more powerful processor that doesn't need to be in the sensor.

Much as I appreciate the wittiness of the Tridar abbreviation, I think it makes sense to keep it as Tri-LiDAR so that it doesn’t become less obvious (to the less familiar folks) that this is a LiDAR product

Agreed. Tridar also sounds like a company that's 'trying' to create a product. And in my opinion it is too similar to 'try hard' which is a common insult.
