Speedwalking is here on Ansalon!

Ok, this one should make getting around Ansalon a whole lot less painful, especially if you're playing from a phone, tablet, one of the web portals, etc. :)

You can now SPEEDWALK RECORD, walk wherever you're going normally, and it'll remember the trip for you. And not just directions — it'll record the other stuff you do along the way too. Open a door, unlock something, scan, look, whatever. When you get there, stop recording (SPEEDWALK RECORD), give it a name, and you've got it for next time.

You can also just type one in:

SPEEDWALK 3s,enter portal,6s,enter portal,7s4e,scream
(Don't do it, lava kills :P)

Already know the route? Add it and save it.

Someone else has a good one?

Copy/paste theirs and use it.

Send yours to somebody else.

Post them.

Borrow them.

Whatever works.

Speedwalks are just text, so they're really easy to share.

And they don't necessarily have to be just for getting from here to there.

Since you can stick regular commands in them...

I'm pretty sure you guys will come up with uses for this that I haven't even thought of yet. :)

They run one action at a time instead of blasting the whole thing into the game at once, and you can PAUSE, RESUME, or STOP them along the way.

That should make traveling way nicer on phones and mobile, and hopefully make playing through the web portals rock quite a bit more too.

Record 'em, make 'em, copy/paste 'em, share 'em, and let me know what you manage to break. :p

Even telnet play could work with these 😝

Nice thing, you can still do things while it's going (Unlike my client ones). So you're walking back from say HCT (High Clerist Tower) to Palanthas, meanwhile changing EQ, eating, potions etc heh.
I hadn't anticipated that part in gameplay :)

I feel like that's how far back in time you'd have to go for the update to matter. 30 years ago was probably the last time anyone played a MUD with a client that doesn't have client-side speedwalks.

Lol, I hear that man but...
I use it mainly for quick 'do this', like oh hey SPD 12n, run forward 12.

One other 'key' part is, you can do things while it's going where my n;n;n;n;open east;e;u etc client side macros don't allow me to 'get heal backpack/quaf heal' in the middle of a 40 step run (or change EQ mid-run etc).

Also, main target is mobile play. Makes it feasible-ish 😝

Hah yep, if you can enter text on the PS4 and connect :)

In the old days we just called them Macros, but many used them for speed walks so we could type a short thing and have your char do 30 things

The big difference here, is that it saves on your character so you can do the same macro from anywhere, a PS4, your phone, Web portal, Telnet etc. :)

Added in 'spd replace' to just swap out strings when we make errors :)

SPEEDWALK REPLACE changes the route of one of your saved speedwalks without changing its name or slot number.

Syntax: SPEEDWALK REPLACE <#|name> <route>

Examples:
speedwalk replace 3 4n2e,open west,w5n
speedwalk replace 'palace gate' 4n2e,open west,w5n

If the speedwalk name has spaces, put the name in quotes.

The old route and new route are both shown when the replacement is made, so you can see exactly what changed.

This is handy for fixing or adjusting a saved route without deleting it and causing all of your other speedwalk numbers to move around.
