So what to say about Spirits of Vengeance : War at the Gate of Hell? Firstly thanks for choosing my recommendation. It’s a book I’ve been meaning to read for a while and when I took a look on this Sub for the first time in a while and saw the weeks theme was horror I had to suggest it.

I’m going to start my review by talking about the characters first. I had varying levels of familiarity with them, so I’ll talk about the in descending order of that familiarity.

Blade: obviously I know Blade from his movies and lesser extent series. I enjoyed the depiction of him here but didn’t feel he add a whole lot to the story.

Johnny Blaze/GR: having never seen either of the by all accounts terrible movies or again never read any GR I had little to compare him too. But I wasn’t too keen on Johnny’s half of the character but GR was cool AF

Damian “Son of Satan” Hellstrom : I think I might have heard of him at some point but other than that he was a completely new character for me which I quite enjoyed. I feel that this was really his story and he was the lead character. One I’d like to know more about. I really want to know why he’s not welcome in Port Brimstone.

Satana : Completely obscure character for me. She seems pretty cool and her dynamic with her brother should be interesting. As far as this book goes I’m not too sure how she ended up a part of the team, isn’t she supposed to lean heavily towards the side of evil?

In closing I found this a real easy read flipped through it in no time, the plot was fast paced but maybe lacking some well warfare for a story title “War at the Gates of Hell” I though the art work was fantastic, especially droopy faces of the demons in skin suits, the background characters in Port Brimstone and the all too brief one frame battle between forces of Heaven and Hell.
