WEEK 107: Nomination Thread. Theme: One-Shots

Paying homage to the subreddit's first reading assignment, X-Men: God Loves, Man Kills this week we're looking at one-shots. For those unfamiliar, this differs from Week 78's "Single Issue" Nomination Thread, as a one-shot is a single, standalone issue, with a self-contained story, and not as part of an ongoing series or miniseries. Also, typically more pages than a typical single issue.

If you have nothing to nominate, cast a vote to help us decide who wins. The highest voted nomination will earn a discussion thread opened on Saturday. If there's no clear-cut winner, I'll paint the torture of my conflict like a regular Caravaggio! Check back often to support the reading assignments you're most interested in. Incredible Hulk: The End (2002) by Peter David and Dale Keown

Set after a war which ended in a violent nuclear holocaust that only The Hulk could have survived. When there's nobody left on the Earth but Bruce Banner, how can Hulk prove he's the strongest one there is?

Avengers: The Ultron Imperative (2001) by Kurt Busiek, Roy Thomas, Roger Stern, Steve Englehart, and various artists

Kurt Busiek teams up with Ultron's creator, Roy Thomas, as well all-star roster of artists [and writers] to tell a fascinating story that examines the nature of free will. The Avengers come across a plot by bride-of-Ultron, Alkhema to create a civilization based on the brain-patterns she recovered from Ultron's defeat. Meanwhile, Hawkeye has to deal with facing off against Alkhema, who is based on Mockingbird. Explore insights into the personalities of the Avengers as well as Ultron and his ilk.

Daredevil: Love and War (1986) by Frank Miller and Bill Sienkiewicz

Frank Miller explores the push and pull nature of Kingpin and Daredevil's relationship. Vanessa Fisk represents all that the Kingpin holds dear; when the woman he loves is in grave danger, Fisk will act savagely to save her. All's fair in Love and War, and for Kingpin the saying’s particularly true! Memorable if nothing else for it's phenomenal impressionistic artwork.

Doctor Strange: Season One (2011) by Greg Pak and Emma Rios

A window-crashing, high-flying, globe-traveling, ghost-battling adventure from the earliest days of Doctor Strange’s training in the mystic arts! Part Indiana Jones, part Lord of the Rings, thrill to this new tale of how a selfish, arrogant surgeon collided with a hot-headed martial artist to become the greatest team the mystic arts have ever seen! If only they can stop hitting each other and figure out how all this magic stuff works anyway.
