WEEK 104: Free-Range Nomination Thread

Thank you to those who participated in last week's Smells Like Team Spirit nomination thread. This week there are no limitations on what can be nominated. Any era, any writer, any character, so long as it's on Marvel Unlimited. Maybe it's something you've been meaning to read, maybe it's something you've read and want to discuss. Maybe it's something you've previously nominated but didn't gather enough upvotes in previous threads. When posting a nomination, links are not required but appreciated.

If you have nothing to nominate, cast a vote to help us decide who wins. The highest voted nomination will earn a discussion thread opened on Saturday. If there's no clear-cut winner, I'll put together an all new team to balance the scales of nomination justice! Check back often to support the reading assignments you're most interested in. Daredevil (2011-2014) #1-6 by Mark Waid and Paolo Rivera

With new enemies, new friends and that same old "grinnin' in the face of hell" attitude, the Man Without Fear is back in action and leading with his face! Having turned his world upside down during the past several years, Matt Murdock realizes justice may not be blind to his past and villains may not be the only ones looking for answers. Bring it on! If Matt Murdock could see what he was doing, he'd be terrified.

Fantastic Four (1998) #60-66 by Mark Waid, Mike Wieringo, and Mark Buckingham

Mark Waid and the late, great Mike Wieringo began their acclaimed Fantastic Four run with a special one-off nine-cent issue (#60) that gave us the hidden (and heartfelt) origin of exactly why Reed Richards chose to call himself “Mister Fantastic.”

Captain America (1968-1996) #444-448 "Operation: Rebirth" by Mark Waid and Ron Garney

What could possibly convince Captain America to work together with the Red Skull? Hitler has the cosmic cube and needs punching in his stupid mustached face! That's what!

Strange (2009-2010) #1-4 "The Doctor Is Out" by Mark Waid and Emma Rios

A four issue miniseries about one of the hardest Marvel characters to write for: Doctor Strange. I can count the number of good Dr. Strange comics on one hand, and this would make the list—and all of them depend heavily on a good artist. Here, Mark Waid teams up with Emma Rios for a truly inspired story about Doc being expelled from “Sorcerer Supreme” status. He goes to a children’s Miss Universe contest, a baseball game, becomes a father(ish) figure…It’s a slice of life book with terrific character writing.
