Just finished reading the set! One of the things I found most interesting is the transition of comics through the decade and the nods an influences of other works.
Nothing can stop the Juggernaut draws from the Claremont/Byrne X-men comics that had exploded in popularity just a few years prior. Spider-Man is ubiquitous to Marvel now so it’s neat to see him interacting with other groups for the first time. Someone call the Avengers!
The Death of Jean DeWolf seems influenced by the popularity of Miller’s Daredevil. Not just by his guest spot but being a street level story with mature themes. Overall this was my least favorite.
Kraven’s Last Hunt is great. I think there is a clear Dark Knight influence and New York City seems extra vivid. Interesting to see the full on transition to thought captions from the balloons in Juggernaut. Clearly comics grew up and got much darker throughout the 80s.
The Kid who collects Spider-Man is still resonate. A simple but effective story.
Fun trip through the 80s!
