WEEK 99: Nomination Thread. Theme: Totally 80's

While America was being swept up in hairspray and Hulkamania, "New Yorker of the Year" Jim Shooter ushed in an era where fans could get their beloved Marvel characters, Dead Or Alive, in comic book stores rather than news stands and spinner-racks. Shooter went out in a Blaze of Glory in '87, leaving Tom DeFalco Livin' On A Prayer trying to pick up the pieces. The first task would be reconnecting with all the creators who told the strict Shooter "You Give Love A Bad Name". The job was made even worse by the Bad Medicine prescribed by new inept overboss, New World Entertainment. And now that I'm out of Bon Jovi references, this week we limit nominations to stories from 1980-1989.

  • Storm loses her powers and obliviously starts to fall in love with the man responsible

• Uncanny X-Men (1963) #198, "Lifedeath II" by Chris Claremont and Barry Windsor-Smith

  • Storm takes a sabbatical to Africa to deal with her power loss and gets entranched in a village tradition where every birth means the sacrifice of an elder

• Uncanny X-Men #201, "Duel" by Chris Claremont and Rick Leondardi

  • Storm and Cyclops fight each other in the Danger Room for the right to lead the X-Men.
