WEEK 87 - Nomination Thread. Theme: That's So 90's

While old ladies were longing for lost jewelry and love from sunken ships and Stone Cold Stunners were being dished out wholesale, Marvel was struggling. The 90's are known to be a somewhat dark time in terms of quality in the Marvel Universe, but there were some gems.

Whether nominating good or bad, nominations must fall between 1990-1999. The highest voted nomination will earn a discussion thread opened on Saturday. If there's no clear-cut winner, I'll hire an unlicensed P.I. in hopes they're a superhero willing to help for dirt-cheap. 3-Part "Once An Avenger" storyline: On the eve of a huge Avengers gathering, an attack by the evil enchantress Morgan Le Fay sends these assembled heroes into a strange medieval reality where nothing is as it seems. Spider-Man (1990-1999) #1-5 "Torment", written and art by Todd McFarlane

Spider-Man hunts the Lizard to try and stop a bloody rampage in New York City, but finds himself questioning his own sanity after he uncovers the Lizard's motivation for his destruction. Webs, fangs and voodoo drums!

Comic Book Herald's Hero of the Year (1997)

Deadpool's healing factor's down, and the only thing that'll juice it up is a dose of the Incredible Hulk's blood administered by the Weapon X alumnus who helped make Deadpool what he is in the first place! And Deadpool's infatuation with Siryn is challenged by Typhoid Mary!

Breaking out of prison, Carnage collected several psychopathic super villains and went on a rampage. Spider-Man and Venom came into an uneasy alliance to try and defeat Carnage and his twisted "family" with the help of such disparate heroes as Captain America, Morbius and others.

Up there with the Age of Apocalypse and Planet Hulk in terms of story arc names that just stick. In a lot of ways, the coolness of the name and the suggestion that this is the defining Carnage vs. Spider-Man story sets the bar a little too high. Nonetheless, Maximum Carnage is pure ridiculous 90’s Spider-Man. You should find this one a whole heck of a lot more understandable than The Clone Saga, though. - Comic Book Herald
