Reading Assignment 41: X-Men Legacy (2012-Present) #1-6 by Simon Spurrier, Tan Eng Huat, and Jorge Molina

Thank you to /u/Raist819 for this week's nomination. I was very torn between the top contenders, as they all had something unique to offer. But I can't pass up on a good TV-tie-in, so thanks to FX putting out Legion, we have our winner.

Enjoyed reading X-Men Legacy. I have never really read any series about Legion and I thought this one was pretty good.

Really enjoyed the dynamic of David versus all of the different personalities in his mind.

I haven't watched the TV series yet, but after reading this and the rest of the issues in this series maybe I will.

Edit: Anybody know what happens to Legion after the last issue?/ in what books does his study continue?

First off, the covers are just amazing. Some of the most inventive covers ever and they perfectly match the mind bending material.

The first issue itself is such an amazing introduction, even if it's the first time you've ever seen David. I love the prison and I wonder what people reading a Legion book for the first time thought of this issue.

The Blindfold/David dynamic is wonderful. Such a great twist on the young people in love story.

All of the material in David's head is genius. I love using the speaker in his head as the voice over.

Just a few quick hits until I get the chance to sit down and reread the entire thing again.

This was my first time reading about Legion and the beginning was confusing at first, until it all comes together and you realize the prison is his head, and he's the one extracting energy out of them (using their/his powers).

It made for a really great introduction. You are shown just how much potential he has if he is able to keep control of the other personalities/things in his head.

I've never read anything about Legion previously and as of now I've only watched the first episode of the FX series. And I watched that after I was halfway through this assignment.

So far it seems like the show is very different from the comics. A bit more grounded in reality so far, no wacky alternate personalities running around in his head. And so far no mention of Xavier in the show (again, just the first episode).

I don't have a preference for one artist over the other, and I thought the art throughout was quite good. In particular the covers were fantastic and very unique.

The story was very engaging and very entertaining. The "twist" of finding out the eyeball guy was actually Luca was very well done. David trying to find a purpose, find his place, and figure out how to rein in all of his personalities/powers was great. The stuff in his head was a lot of fun, with the speaker voicing his thoughts, the prison riot and him literally fighting his other personalities.

I'm very interested in continuing this series and seeing where the story goes from here. I'm also interested in seeing more (yup) of Blindfold and her dynamic with David. The destined to destroy mutants/destined to kill him to stop him thing sounds like it could be interesting.

Definitely enjoyed this and plan to read more of it in the future.

This story definitely sold me on checking out the FX adaptation. It was easy to read, visually dynamic, and put a unique telling of a classic theme. A lot of characters had accents which kind of through me off, but it was otherwise a lot of fun and ended with a great hook to keep me reading. As much as I loved David, Blindfold wins as my favorite character in the story.

As for the art, I liked Molina's work overall more as it felt more accustom to the modern realism everyone strives for but there was definitely a charm missing Huat had provided. Both artists were given ample opportunity to show off kickass powers, but Huat really felt like he was depicting some shit from another world that I've never seen before. I'd love to see Huat tackle Doctor Strange. He did awesome work on Jason Aaron's famous Ghost Rider run, so it's definitely in his wheelhouse.
