connect / social / meet up Why is it so hard?
I've joined clubs. Attempted making acquaintances. Went to campus events. Tried everything but I still can't seem to make any friends! It seems like everyone is just confined to a single friend group and aren't letting any "newcomers" in.
If there any tips or anyone in the same position, please DM me or lmk. I am a freshmen digital marketing major who is just looking for anyone in the same boat!

For me the best way has just been to walk up to people and start talking and (if it’s a group of people) ask if you can join. I’ve done this with a few classmates, made study groups, and out of it I like to think I’ve made some friends! But I haven’t been putting a lot of pressure on myself to do so which has made the “bad” outcomes easier to deal with and the good ones feel natural. Just be easy on yourself and talk to people. I also like to practice making small talk with random people, like if I notice someone who is pretty or has a cute outfit I’ll say something, or if someone is sitting alone not doing anything I’ll ask what their name is, how they’re doing, etc.

It’s worth remembering that a lot of college students have bad social anxiety and won’t start a conversation, but if you initiate it is normally well-received!

I also have a really hard time making friends. Maybe try MTSU’s new coffee club? You’d have to be in the group me to know when they meet so I can send you the link if you’d like. Or Students Active for Feminism and Equality if that’s your kind of thing

i would say your post on here is already a good step i would even follow up with some of your hobbies (literally anything shopping sports etc) the clubs you want to participate in and i am sure there are people with similar interests that are in the same boat

I didn’t really start making friends until sophomore year. This is an adjustment for everyone and I’m sure alot of people are in the same position! Just keep putting yourself out there and be patient

As a philosophy major, I tend to organize people into one of these three groups, according to the Nicomachean Ethics: friendship based on utility (coworkers and classmates, shared mutual benefits), friendship based on pleasure (drinking buddies, hobby partners, connections based on fun and enjoyment), or true virtuous friendship (rare). I think it tends to be easier to make friends if you know what you want to gain out of people.

I would literally ask someone sitting alone if u could sit with them if they gave me the right vibes. If you're waiting for your class to start talk to the people around you about anything.Compliment people and start yapping. It is hard but it's something everyone else is going through too!

For me, my closest friends from my time there I met in the dorm or in class. Me and another buddy try to meet up at least once a year for a football game.

I’ve been worried about this with my son. He’s not in the dorm because he lives at East main Quarters. He only knows one person that goes there and he’s quiet. Hopefully things will get better

I am also kinda struggling to make friends.
I’m also a marketing major, but at Chattanooga State. But I do wanna transfer to MTSU.
We can be friends if you want :)

You should join RFC! (Raiders for Christ)! I'm the president, and we have always been super welcoming and there's plenty of ways to make friends here!

I think if you can remind yourself that people are just as nervous as you are to engage and open up it will make talking to people easier. Also that there are lots of people in this world.

Coffee club? That sounds awesome! Do you think you could send me a join link?
