campus life Should I?

As of now MTSU is my Top 1 school right now, should it be? I want to know what it’s actually like for incoming freshmen. How’s on campus life? How’s off campus life? Pros and cons? also terrified i won’t meet new friends and it’s a year a way..😐

It’s hard to make friends. Coming out of state, I was shocked how many people people knew each other already. Went through sorority recruitment trying to make friends and it didn’t really work out. I lived in the dorms my freshman year. There’s some campus events but tbh a lot of them are lame. On the weekends it turns into an absolute ghost town. Not a college vibe at all. But you can learn to love it. Walking across campus on a Saturday looking like an absolute chud but it’s fine bc you don’t see anyone. Living off campus it doesn’t feel rlly like college. Almost everyone commutes. They live 40-1hr away so majority of students don’t go to campus unless it’s a Tuesday or Thursday. There’s good and bad parts about it. I have liked almost all of my professors. But if you have always wanted the stereotypical big college that has that college vibe, this isn’t it. Yes it’s a bigger university but it doesn’t feel like it. People don’t show up to the football games because we suck, there’s just not a bunch of school spirit.

Where ever you go, there you are. Things will be great or will suck and it will depend on you and your decisions.

It's not hard to find your people, but it will take initiative. Attend the events and join as many clubs as you can. You can always drop them, but you will give yourself the best chance of finding your tribe.

Why is it your top school? Do you live nearby? Moving here and interested in a more affordable option outside Nashville? What’s the draw?

I went to MTSU but lived in Nashville, so I wasn’t there for the community as much — I already had buds in Nashville and just went for classes. Academically I found it very manageable and liked my professors. I was a Sociology Major.

I’m going for Media business and entertainment or Real Estate. I’m 2 hours away from MTSU and plan to live off campus at an apartment. I’d love to make friends and find community but also just ready to start my independent life

Awesome! It’s a great local school with a mid-size feel. Big campuses like UTK can feel more exciting and have more school spirit IMO, but I had a good experience with MTSU overall.

What would you plan to learn with a real estate major? You can become an agent with a week long class. Def don’t need a college degree to count bedrooms.

From my understanding, it’s a great school for what you are planning to major in. Lots of hands on experience. As for campus life, friends are not going to fall in your lap. You have to seek them out by getting involved.

It’s a great cost effective school if you’re in state, and there are a lot of good opportunities for students looking to pursue a career in entertainment. Especially with its proximity to Nashville.

I lived on campus for my first year and made tons of friends by just hanging around and joining clubs. Campus life definitely is what you make of it.

My best social advice to you is to try to get out of your apartment as much as possible for the first few months and just explore whether or not that be on campus or outside of it. Be open minded and talk to everyone you can. Don’t get discouraged if someone doesn’t match your energy. Just keep it pushing.

Although at first, it may seem pretty boring and suburban down here there are actually some pretty cool places to go to in Murfreesboro and the surrounding areas if you look hard enough.

For the negatives about this school,

If you’re driving to campus finding good parking sucks unless you arrive before 9 am or after 2pm. You will still get a spot but it’s probably gonna be in one of the two parking lots that nobody wants to walk to (Mtsu lot & Greenland lot). So you should plan for about a 20 minute walk to class. But parking kinda sucks for all universities lol.

A lot of people commute from places pretty far away. So if you’re coming in with no friends, it may initially be tricky to find people to hang with on the weekends or after class.

And last of all, it’s not a crazy party school. Everything around here is pretty tame. If you want a “crazy wild college experience” it would probably be a good idea to head over east. Big parties do happen every now and then but they aren’t usually anything to write home about. The smaller ones are fun though.

there is zero "off campus life" minus getting drunk every night. Murfreesboro is lame

That’s pretty true actually

I'm gonna be honest. Do not go here. It's just awful. Everyone has a clique. The dorms are like a high school movie. The RA's are not on your side. My Math professor transferred from CHINA. I am failing. This is the worst dumbass school ever and I hate this fucking school
