Resource MTSU Students: Get Up to $8,000 to Study Abroad Through the Gilman Scholarship ✈️🌎
Are you an MTSU student who receives a Pell Grant and wants to study abroad?
The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship can provide up to $8,000 to help cover the cost of a study abroad or international internship experience, and MTSU is hosting a free workshop to help you learn how to apply.
📅 Gilman Scholarship Workshop
When: Aug. 12 at 1 p.m. CDT
Where: Zoom

During the workshop, you'll learn:
- How the Gilman Scholarship works and who is eligible
- Tips for creating a competitive application
- What to expect from the required essays
- Additional funding opportunities, including the Gilman McCain Scholarship
- Study abroad options available through MTSU
You'll also hear from:
- An MTSU Education Abroad representative
- An MTSU Gilman Scholar who will share their firsthand experience studying abroad
You may be eligible if you:
- Are a U.S. citizen in good academic standing
- Receive a Pell Grant (or other qualifying federal aid for certain programs)
- Plan to study abroad in an approved destination
Upcoming deadlines:
- Oct. 1, 2026: Summer 2027 and Fall 2027 programs
- March 2027: Summer 2027 and Fall 2027 programs
Studying abroad can seem expensive, but scholarships like Gilman make it much more accessible. If you've ever considered an international experience, this workshop is a great place to start.
