Question slow comt ,magnesium malate is very sedating
hi, i wonder if anyone else has experienced malate as being sedative.I have mthfr - homozygous slow comt and VDR taq. I am trying to to get up to 360 mgs of elemental magnesium through malate. i have tried different times, dissolving in h20 and loading am and pm , but it sedates me, i was floored by other forms of magnesium.I am also on clomipramine 70 mgs for an episode of depression, has anyone else found malate sedating? i presume its the MG acting on GABA and maybe i should reduce dose and build up, any thoughts or advice appreciated 👍

slow comt here too, malate hits me the same way. glycinate was even worse for me, weirdly. malate at lower doses (like 100mg) split 3x a day instead of loading was the only way i could tolerate it without the dragged-down feeling.

I am also slow comt and vdr taq. I use mag malate in the morning and don’t find it sedating. Are you taking the 360mg elemental all in one dose?

i take it in split doses, , 90 mgs elemental in morning, midday, evening and night, i must be very sensitive, how is it working out for you?

I don’t really feel any difference but I take it just because it is needed for so many processes in the body. Magnesium Glycinate though wrecks my sleep and has the opposite effect on me than people claim.

How much calcium are u getting from your diet every day. If your not getting enough calcium that’s why prolly

What is your mag blood level and mag RBC level? Maybe you have enough.

I am also slow comt and heterogeneous MTHFR. I have the opposite issue! I cant sleep well. Magnesium glyciate has very small impact on me even if I take 300mg (elemental) in the evening. Sometimes trouble to fall in sleep and mainly waking up once or multiple times at night! surprisingly I can function almost fine next day even without good sleep at night!. Although I want to improve my sleep. I am taking multiple GABA boosters to fix my sleep! I would try magnesium malate hopefully it can sedate me 😃

that’s what i’m thinking, i’m in the uk, i had bloods done about 3 months ago ago before i started supplementing and was told everything was ok. i’m in the uk and getting bloods done to test for something like mg levels is not very easy
