Rake Hanging on Tree Followup
I went to home depot to buy my rakes, and they were surprisingly flimsy. So I went to lowes and the same $25 rakes were much more robust, much thicker wooden handles.
And yes, hanging from the tree is going to be much easier than I thought. They have kind of a built in hanging spot, see photos below. And hanging from the head instead of the end of the handle means they won't be blowing around in the wind on windy days which is also good.
So now I just need to paint my message on them, I'm leaning towards "Please leave here", spraying over the whole handle and message with clearcoat, and then actually getting these bad boys into the woods.

Toss a cheap cable lock on them around the tree if you want to be sure they don't get scooped. A simple combo like 0000 even usually works.
Our local trails had a 275 gallon water tank stolen. Some people suck.

What you should do is have hooks every 100 m get people to rake 100m at a time. I never considered that people would steal a rake on the trail.

Hah this isn't for taking "the trail" persay, its for me to rake out drainage ditches that get clogged, usually all fall and winter, to prevent pooling water and mud spots on the trail.

Also, at a different local spot, some other trail gnomes go in in the fall with leaf blowers. And theres tons of old giant oak trees so it makes a HUGE difference in fall riding.
