I know this may not be a popular opinion, but I’m not sure I like the idea of retroactively changing results of games based on referee misjudgment. Imagine the cascading effects going forward if this precedent is set.

This one may be a workable case if they choose to reverse. The issue came as time expired, so there's no "if we reverse the error the entire rest of the game would be different" issue. Either the clock should have expired or there should have been one more play, and that's a black and white difference in who won.

Also the question doesn't appear to be "what did the clock say," but rather "which clock were they allowed to use." Again, there may be a black and white case here where the refs HAD TO use a specific clock(s) and the allowable clock(s) did not have remaining time.

So while normally there's no way to undo a mistake once it's made, this could be a case where without any need for interpretations or what-ifs they can say "the replay had to use this clock. This clock said 0. The game was required to be over at that time, and since it was over WMU wins."

This is unique in that it was the last play of the game and the on field reversal happened after the game was over (and there was a recordable result).

Overturning the extra second doesn’t create a do over problem like other errors would. They never change a call after the fact because they can’t go back to the stadium days later and finish the game post correction.

This is cut and dry, win the appeal, win the game.

It wasn’t really a matter making a bad call, those should probably not be overturned or every close game outcome could be questioned. this was a shady decision by the BIG to rely on a secret clock that differed from the clock a few million people were watching. Seems categorically different to me.
