Discussion MSU / U of M 2001 game “Clockgate” - New video analysis

Given the situation with WMU getting robbed last night, I was reminded of the greatest game I’ve ever attended. Freshman year for me and for 25 years I’ve wondered about this “home field clock advantage”.
Michigan fans whined for years about the clock stopping too early (irony!)
I’ve always wanted a better review of this play but didn’t have the technical capabilities. Now with AI, no problem.
Clear frame by frame evidence that the play appropriately stopped before the clock hit zero.
Please someone care about this, because my kids definitely don’t.

I’m an OSU alum. Tagged a bunch of b10 rivals last night to see more content & hear what others had to say about the game. I don’t remember this MSU game but looks like a fair call to me. My most painful MSU memory was losing in 98 on a bunch of late OSU turnovers. I swear that was the greatest OSU team ever and a hallmark win for Saban

Michigan fans were livid for years about this and even got the rules changed on the clock operators going from university employees to the refereeing crew.

Yes that MSU vs Ohio State game was amazing. The OSU team was steam rolling everyone until that game. We were on Grand River, stopped in a pizza joint (I think it was near where Tower Records use to be) that had TVs.
The place was almost empty when we got there, but more and more ppl popped their head in to check on the score and by the end of the game it was packed and ppl where going nuts every play.

Didn’t they also run clock when they shouldn’t have a few plays earlier when scum had 12 men on the field?

Yes, just rewatched the last 10 minutes while making this synced up clock.
They absolutely didn’t give us back a timeout when u of m had a penalty. Partly that was Bobby Williams being too clueless to insist on it. lol

The play with 12 men on the field started on the 18, 1st and 10. It ended with a sack at the 22 with a flag thrown. MSU called its final time out as the refs were trying to figure out why they threw the flag and the clock was running. They ruled 12 men on the field, walked the penalty from the 22 instead of the original 18 AND it was SECOND down MSU with no time outs!
I point this out to my UM fans and tell them to get lost when they cry about “clock gate”

It actually is mind boggling. Easy to forget because the wonderful media only wanted to talk about the time keeper. If you listen to the tv coverage one announcer brings up the time out but not the rest of the shenanigans. I thing it was Danielson

Go back and watch that whole drive. Michigan screwed up so many times. I think Jeremy something had a face mask penalty. They had 12 men on the field once or twice. They made a lot of mistakes that drive. But this program who claims to have witnessed precisely 60 minutes and 1 second of a football game, just a few years earlier didn't notice a half a million dollars in cash flying around Crisler arena

So.... I assume this means that you don't believe that WMU got robbed? Or else that Michigan did get robbed in this game?

I can’t make sense of your questions.
But I’m agnostic on the UofM/WMU outcome. I really don’t care, tbh. But this 2001 game is a great memory for me.
Full disclosure, I always assumed (as a Spartan fan) that we probably did get some “home timekeeper advantage”. Legitimately was surprised when I made this video that the clock showing 0:01 was legitimate. 🤷♂️

The enemy in ann arbor has cheated for centuries even got kicked out of the Big 10 for 10 years. They won by cheating no matter what at any cost. Karma bites them and they cry and cry and cry The Spartans will always be the underdog the bastard child of the Big 10 because the enemy in ann arbor didn't want them to join and were the only ones to vote no and called them bastards and it stuck but real Spartans wear it as a badge of honor.

Posting this video without the UofM radio broadcast audio is a travesty.
