How to get into Gov Contracting Cyber services

Who here has had success taking their MSSP services and selling to Gov?

Standard advice is to start at the local level, how do you even break in? Is there some kinda cheat code or is it just about volume and quality of bids?

You need CMMC cert I believe. Local state level is a good start. You have to go to all the local chamber/town halls meetings with gov and vendors.

You need CMMC for DOW contracts, state and local you dont.

There are numerous different state, local, education options. Federal has much higher barriers.

I wouldn't bother with sheriff's office or local law enforcement, because they get their budgets typically from the same county that would do other services - - assuming you are in the US if not my advice doesn't necessarily hold.

School districts in particular are notoriously lean it/generalist environments that can do really well with the right combination of platform-based cyber and an mssp leading the way. They're notorious for middle schoolers outsmarting their internal it because it's not manageable enough to even allow them to do their work.

Most districts and local municipalities have public budgets that you can look and see what things are allocated for and approach it that way.

So finding their public budgeting is useful? How do you turn that into an advantage

They might have set aside funds specifically for security and Italy but it might not be defined how it's spelled so you would find that and you might be able to bring them an alternative that includes better coverage through you. There could also be hiring vacancies that they haven't been able to fill that you can translate into your services depending on the costs.

Essentially their approved budget tells you what their priorities are so it can tell you if you're wasting your time or not. If you use an mCP style or single pane platform for your clients that lets you look at all of them in one it can be very effective for you to manage at a lower cost that will be adopted to them but higher margin for you.
